cgarvieuk (2541), Edinburgh, Scotland Aug 18, 2008 deep black, lots of roast malt, sweet little charcoal roast malts;bit too akcoholic; Thanks to Mes for this one ... Mes_and_Sim (4477), Highgate, Greater London, England Aug 4, 2008 A Mes rate: Bottle supped in the Harlequin in Sheffield thanks as so many good beers are, to Jan and Charlotte. Almost black with a good tan head. It’s clear from my first sniff that this is underrated. A very Scottish smoky malt nose with hints of rubber and faint whiffs of alcohol. The flavour is excellent. Smoke, peat and some lovely earthy malt. Very rubbery, wonderfully dry and laden with burnt toast. This is pretty much a traditional UK style stout. In a blind tasting there is no way I would pick this out as being Danish. Creamy yet dry mouthfeel with perfect carbonation round off a glorious performance. Maybe I was swept away in the moment but I think this is a cracker. hughie (2284), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Jul 27, 2008 Bottle opened at the Harlequin, Sheffield, on RateBeer Valley of Beer Crawl ’08. Thanks for this to mes and fonefan. Very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is sweet, roasty and ashy. Taste is sweet roasted malts and coffee. Mid bitter finish. Delicious. lassem (134), Copenhagen, Denmark Jul 26, 2008 75 cl. Champange Bottle. Creamy feeling to this almost black and nice topped stout. Fairly hoppy and you sense the alcohol.
