oh6gdx (5904), Vaasa, Finland Apr 24, 2008 Bottled. Pitch black colour with thick and creamy brown head. Aroma is caramel malts, chocolate, coffee and some mild notes of smoked wood and alcohol. Flavour is quite much the same, along with vanillaish hints. The alcohol is quite strong in the flavour.
SilkTork (3882), Rochester, Kent, England Sep 1, 2008 Chris_o’s GBBF Shindig August 08. Greasy chocolate aroma. Fishy flavour - anchovies - smoke - smooth - chocolate dipped strawberries - dark tangy hops leaving a peppery tingle. The underlying fruit and marshmallows lifts this above the ordinary. A lovely beer. goldtwins (3734), Nesconset, New York, USA Aug 18, 2008 RBSG ’08: Poured black with a tan head. Great roasted aroma with notes of cigar, ash, chocolate and sweet roast. The flavor was sweet and roasty with a good amount of chocolate. Bitter finish. I’ll repeat myself lots-o-chocolate. Mes_and_Sim (4365), Highgate, Greater London, England Aug 14, 2008 A Mes rate: Bottle at Chris O’s Pre GBBF Tasting. Have wanted to try this for a while so it was quite a treat when it was popped open at the tasting. Black body with a thick tan head. As adorable as an Olfabrikken porter should be. All the expected chocolate and delicate coffee with a slight smoky hint. The honey adds quite a lot of sweetness that holds it back from being quite as fantastic as the regular porter but the harbacious dry finish brings it back on track. Great stuff but the regular is better. Ughsmash (3004), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Aug 11, 2008 Bottle at RBSG, 2005 vintage. Poured deep brown with a nice, creamy cap of tan head. The aroma was sweet overall with semi-sweet chocolate, coffee, and molasses along with some off-putting diapery notes.. medium level of roast. The flavor had sweeter chocolate, caramel, and molasses along with dry herbal accents.. spicier on the back with an array of dark malts that came across as a little stale. Medium-bodied on the palate with higher carbonation.. the dry finish picked up some sweeter chocolates.. good mouthfeel.. felt nowhere near 11%. mgumby10 (1642), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA Aug 5, 2008 Pours black, with a creamy light tan head. Really chocoltey nose, thick and creamy, with some roast and malty notes as well. The flavor is pretty intense chocolate just like th nose let on. Really makes it pretty sweet and sugary. If I didnt love chocolate in beer so much, I might have found this a bit sweet. Some dark fruit comes through in the finish however, and gives it a bit of balance. Pretty tasty.
