pepsican (645), the beer wastelands of, Iowa, USA May 12, 2008 A big thanks to iowaherkeye for this rare gem. Thanks as always joey! Black pour with a dusty brown head. Aroma and flavor were very similar. I got chocolate, veggies, and fish. I’d say soy sauce, but it seemed more like fish sauce. Some coffee and a bit of hops round off the flavor. Almost salty. Had a nice slick finish. Interesting but I dont know...
badbeer (391), Iowa, USA Jul 5, 2008 Black with a tan head and spotty lacing. Smell was roasty, it also had caramel, maple syrup, and burnt wood. Taste also had maple syrup, caramel, and chocolate, but the taste had a lot more roastiness than the aroma. Medium carbonation with light body. Pretty drinkable beer, thanks to iowaherkeye for sharing. akevitt (93), Valhalla, Minnesota, USA Jun 6, 2008 Thanks to Skyview for sharing. The bear was near opaque black/brown motor oil, moderate amount of light brown head, oily legs. In the aroma there was burnt malt (faint chocolate and smoke). In the flavor there was dry burnt/charred malt (faint chocolate and smoke). Bitter burnt malt finish. As it warmed I got more alcohol and sugar. The beer had a moderately heavy mouthfeel.
joss (3081), Garching b. München, Germany Apr 6, 2008 Bottle, batch 230, thanks a lot henrikb! Big honeyish and light perfumed aroma. Black, dark brown head. Heavy roasted notes, coffe and dark chocolate, lemonpeel and ginger, blackened stovetop finish - appears heavy-handed at first until all the subtle hop notes bubble to the surface and round it off nicely. Medium body, crunchy mouthfeel. Orangepeel and pine retronasal. OSLO (590), Minnesota, USA Apr 1, 2008 [Bottle, thanks Skyview!] Pours black with a tiny dark tan head. Aroma is lightly smoky with chocolate and a little coffee. The taste is very deeply roasted almost charred malt, especially in the finish. A good deal of chocolate is also present. Medium-thick mouthfeel with a long finish. A good beer, but the light char taste with the malt didn’t do it for me.
