blankboy (2487), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 9, 2007 Wow, my 1500th rating! Bottle courtesy of CapFlu. I think it says ’Best before December 1, 2006 on it. I’ve been wondering what I could rate for such a momentous occasion and thanks to CapFlu, I’ve got just the thing! Thanks also to all my beer-rating buddies who helped me get here. O.K., here goes: Pours black with a large lasting foamy brown head -- looks lovely! Very nice aroma, just a little mild, of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, some hops, wood and nuts. Flavour of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and a long, dry, woody, bitter finish -- delicious! Alcohol’s very well hidden. NIce body, creamy mouthfeel. Aroma and flavour are pretty complex for a Porter. This totally lived up to the hype, definitely the best Porter I’ve ever had.
afireinside96 (330), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 17, 2008 Bottle shared by Death with a K. Thanks Keath. Pours extremely dark brown, nearly black, with a brown head. Smells of booze, like a dark rum, licorice root, & coffee. Taste is once again boozy with some chocolate, coffee, licorice, and dark fruit notes. Really this is more of an imperial stout than a porter. Alcohol is a bit too noticeable for my tastes. Nice slow sipper but maybe just a tad overrated. Hank1980 (324), Athens, Georgia, USA Jul 17, 2008 Bottle from Citybeer. Poured a dark brown with a small creamy head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, and dark fruit. Taste is very malty (roasted), with coffee, caramel, and a bit of hops. Mouth is pretty creamy. Very nice porter. Veer (321), Landskrona, Sweden Jul 16, 2008 Aroma: very nice, forest woods, wet blueberry shrubs, raisins, dark malt, slightly flowery. Some sourish cocoa.
Flavour: bittersweet, roasted malt. Coffee. Robust yet delicate. Not as sweet as I expected. Flowery rather than syrupy sweetness. Sappy. Long, bitter aftertaste. Hoppy & nice...
Palate: sappy, thin, slightly silky & frothy but still thin with moderate but piercing carbonation.
Appearance: very dark, musky brown. Thin with beige/yellow/coffee-head. SuperDave70 (641), Arizona, USA Jul 15, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep black with a creamy brown head that lasts and leaves some great lacing. Dark fruity malt aroma with lots of roastiness. Slightly sweet dark fruit and molasses flavors, along with malt, coffee and chocolate. Creamy on the palate. Seriously great brew. Robert_GBG (108), Göteborg, Sweden Jul 10, 2008 Bottle & draught.
Both very good.
Some smoke, burnt and sand in the smell. Creamy, bitter, lots of carbonation.
Very good!
