Mads Langtved (2246), København K, Denmark Jun 4, 2005 Yellow, small head. This beer is pretty spicey and peppery. I like the idea, but it is not executed with enough power and resolve. Could take more, a bit too thin.
Ober (529), Best, Netherlands Nov 29, 2008 A clear orange/amber colored beer, with a thick off-white head. The aroma is spicey, some sweet, with malts. The taste is spicey, like cinnamon and some ginger. Some sweets of malt. Dry bittersweet. The aftertaste is bittersweet as well. There is a ginger and honey flavor. sleepylopes (281), New York, USA Apr 2, 2008 very intresting take on a spiced beer. would have been much more enjoyble if the sweetness was toned down a bit. DruncanVeasey (1820), No. 46, Leicestershire, Belgium Feb 17, 2008 Yeah yeah it’s a bit spicy. Tastes like Becherovka and cheap diet coke. Clear headless ruby. Most obviously cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, rosemary....a bit mouthwashy, but nothing excessively mulled or candle-flavoured. Some biscuity malt survives the spicerack treatment. A nip of Jagermeister. Enjoyed it- reminded me a bit of Anchor Our Special Ale. Underrated. faroeviking (4589), Faroese Autonomous Beer Republic, Denmark Feb 1, 2008 Bottle bought in Riga. Amber colour. String herby, ginger, medicine and juniper aroma. Very strong herby juniper and indeed liquorice, ginger, spiced flavour. FatPhil (2408), Espoo, Finland Jan 10, 2008 330ml bottle (Poseidon, Helsinki)
Reddy orange, tiny head. Smells a bit like candle wax, with a sweet accompaniament of ginger. Taste is relatively disappointing, somewhat thin and plasticky. Quite spicy though, but it doesn’t have the beery body to carry all the spice and the sweetness - and yes, it is too sweet. Can’t identify the predominant spice (it looks like no-one can!), but it’s a bit christmassy, and I think cardamom and Anna thinks nutmeg.
