3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Starts off with a strange stinky cheese and chocolate aroma. Beautiful crystal clear dark brown color that shows garnet under a bright light and topped with a fine bubbled tan head. Dark chocolate, spicy peppers and alcohol rush in followed by a light earthy mushroom flavor (I think that’s the stinky cheese) that lands on the back sides of the tongue and makes it reverse pucker. There’s some hay/barnyard component in there somewhere too along with dark roasted coffee. All of these strangely diverse flavors somehow combine into something quite delicious and still very much to style for an imperial porter. It’s great to be drinking a great, creative American beer on 12/5/2013, the 80th anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition. Happy Repeal Day everyone!!

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
From a bomber into a snifter. Pours a moderate brown. Modest head and lacing which soon disappears. Aroma is the flowers added to the brew and some booze. Mouthfeel is light and very carbonated. Taste is flowers and candy upfront. But there is an undertone of flat bitterness and dirt that is kind of annoying after a few sips. Boozy warmth is also present and it takes away from the flavors. I think this could be dialed down a couple abv and it would have been better. I thought I wouldn't like the flowers but I really did. It was the underlying beer which wasn't up to par. Meh, ok.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Smoke, oak, clear dark appearance, a little Hoppy with a lot of sweet roasted malt tastes across the palate. I also get some bean spouts aromas and a cut grass finish which is a little off putting. As it warmed up its got a little sweeter and some sweet potato aromas came through but that grassy finish is still lingering to ruin it. Bummer...

A slightly sweet malty smoke aroma over citrus peel. The hops takes center stage as far as flavor is concerned. Other notes for me include malt, celery, and bean sprouts. The thin palate makes it seems somewhat less satisfying to me.
As it warms the sweet malty flavors grow but, so does the veggie flavors and they even evolve into a more sour grass.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black pour with a thin beige head. The nose is really floral but not in a hoppy way, like in a flowery way, and with honey and dark roasty maltiness. Flavor is roasty and floral with a backing pale sweetness and dark biscuity malts. Too much flowery tones and smokiness, not sweet enough, though the honey tone is a nice touch.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Deep cola brown hued pour with a small tan head that fades. Aromas of dark chocolate, floral, honey, raisins and a sweet herbal note that I cannot place. Flavors are raisins, dark chocolate, leather, lavender, nutty malt, lightly burnt. Slightly thin for a big impy porter, fuller carbonation.

From a 22oz. bottle, pours a thick black with a frothy, slowly dissipating head. Smell is extremely floral upfront and masks the strong alcohol content. Taste is livened up by the honey which I believe gives it the smooth feel. It is appropriately named "suede". Finishes with the jasmine after the alcohol taste subsides. Paired well with popcorn ; definitely would have again.
