COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Northwest American-Style IPA. The color comes through as a deep gold with orange hues. Fruity and citrusy hop aroma shines, with hints of pine resin. The four hop flavor dominates, re-enforcing the aroma with more citrus, fruity and piney notes. The malt character is clean and smooth with a unique toasted flavor (thanks to the generous helping of Victory malt), all held together by a firm bitterness. Apocalypse has a medium-bodied mouth feel, finishing crisp and dry. All of this results in a very drinkable IPA.

Hops: Horizon, Centennial, Amarillo, Cascade
Malt: 2-row Pale, Victory, Crystal

Bomber. Tropical fruit aroma with mango, pineapple and some pine resiny notes. Pours golden colored with a decent white head with good retention and no lacing. Starts with juicy tropical fruit flavors with mango and pineapple notes. Finishes dry but smooth especially for an IPA with a touch of pine resiny bitterness. Nice IPA.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear gold with small white head that lasts. The aroma is fruity hop, pineapple, mango. Medium mouth, juicy hop, nice light bitterness, really nice.

651 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, well retained off white head, with some lacing, over a very slightly hazy, gold (SRM 5) body.....nose is moderate pine, resin, citrus, light cereal, herbal notes, balance to the hops.....taste is slightly floral sweet, with toasted malts, with toasted bread, biscuit notes, hops add pine, resin, citrus tones, finishing with a lingering moderate bitterness, balance to the hops.......mouth feel, medium body, slight alcohol, moderate carbonation. The malts are on the light side in complexity for an American IPA, but the hops make up with a broad spectrum of aromas and flavors. A touch more of caramel/crystal, and perhaps Vienna malt might make an improvement. BJCP 8/3/15/5/7

On tap at Boise pub. Pours out a orangeish golden topped with a fluffy head. Nose is fruit citrus pine and a nice malty sweetness. Taste is more of the fruit mix and a piny bitterness on the end. A solid ipa always.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium to dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (grapefruit, grass, resin). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. A very simple, straightforward example. Citrusy-grassy hops are about all that’s happening in the nose. Decent quaffing flavor balance, but fairly watery mouthfeel. Overall just a bit above average.

Tap at Quinn’s in a bumped pint glass. Golden orange with emphasis on orange. White frothy full finger head. Aroma is standard IPA with hops, pine, and citrus reigning supreme. Taste is highly hop forward with bitterness and pine cone coming through in full force. Oily mouthfeel. Lingering aftertaste almost like a vine of hops. Refreshing and bright in flavor but relatively straightforward. Nice enough effort from an unfamiliar brewery.

Draught at the 10 Barrel, Bend, OR.
Clear golden colour with a tiny white head. Fruity sweetness, mild bitterness and mild sweet maltiness in the aroma. Fruity and piney hops, mild bitterness and some sweetness in the flavour. Not bad but boring.

Apocalypse IPA isn’t just for the end of the world. Which is a good thing since this beer emits a smell of cherries, hops, and tropical fruits that is to die for! Its light golden color comes with a dash of a reddish tint and is topped with just the tiniest bit of foam. It starts with a short, bubbly attack up front but that fades almost immediately into a subtle, easy to drink beer. The malts and hops working in perfect harmony. It’s no wonder that this is 10 Barrel’s flagship beer. The cherries and fruit come out the somewhat in the beer but even their tastes are rather subtle and just there to help take out the hop-sting. Nothing is overpowering, nothing overwhelms your taste buds. It all just works in this awesome symphony of flavor. The bottle says that Apocalypse has 70 IBU but it’s so smooth, and goes down so easy, that it was hard to believe there were any hops in this beer. Even the aftertaste of this beer was pleasant. There was no alcohol burn (it’s only 6.5%), there was no hoppy bitterness, only a sweet, semi-fruity flavor. However, towards the bottom of the glass, the hop-sting begins to show itself. The vast majority of the beer is really easy to drink and has very little bitterness...but those 70 IBU did show up at the end. Not that it took anything away from the beer in my mind.
