4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Rated 3/29/13. 22 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a dark gold color with middling clarity. The head is an impressive looking four finger (via aggressive pour) offwhite shade. Retention here is quite strong, and as the head slowly recedes, plenty of lacing is left on the glass.
S: Big grapefruit here on the nose. A bit of malt sweetness breaks up all the hops, but ultimately, the pine, black pepper, and grapefruit qualities from the hops win out.
T: Similar to the aroma, the dominant flavor on the palate is grapefruit-derived hop flavors. I half-expected an upsurge of bitter, piny hop flavors on the back end, but no. The bitterness is really well restrained here, seemingly replaced with savory, nonintrusive caramel malts and bright citrus peel. Nonintrusive is the key word here - to me, an overt malt backbone can kill an IPA worse than excessive hop bitterness can, and this strikes a balance between the two aspects. As it warms up, the flavor really takes on a savory, herbal bend to it, especially on the finish.
M: The texture features good dryness, however it could be a bit lighter in my opinion. Still, I like the lack of palate wrecking bitterness here. I’d almost call it ’soft’ - but not quite.
O: What a pleasant surprise! I wasn’t really expecting too much here, but I’m honestly impressed with this offering. This is a great example of a ’balanced’ IPA.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Cannon Beach Screw n Brew. Colour...semi cloudy golden-straw with a thin white head. Nose...nicely balanced between malt and hops, with notes of pine pitch. Palate...light carbonation, dry, dusty hops start things off and are followed closely by pine needles and hop sugar. The bitterness is fairly strong, but not overpowering. The finish is long a s hoppy.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from bottle to glass. Slightly hazy orange hue with creamy white head that dissipated to a ring. Aroma is papaya, melon, pine, orange, grapefruit, straw. Mouthfeel is nice with a medium body and zesty carbonation. Taste is dry sweetness followed by an abrupt bitterness that extends well through the finish. Overall this is a nice, fruity but solidly bitter IPA.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber. Appearance: finger white head that does not last, clear orange golden color, decent lacing. Aroma: floral, grassy, heavy caramel and orange, Palate: medium body, slightly soft carbonation, bitter finish, sticky texture. Taste: sweet caramel into nice grassy hoppiness. Overall, very subtle for how hoppy it is. Really a nice balance and something to look for.
