COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Northwest American-Style IPA. The color comes through as a deep gold with orange hues. Fruity and citrusy hop aroma shines, with hints of pine resin. The four hop flavor dominates, re-enforcing the aroma with more citrus, fruity and piney notes. The malt character is clean and smooth with a unique toasted flavor (thanks to the generous helping of Victory malt), all held together by a firm bitterness. Apocalypse has a medium-bodied mouth feel, finishing crisp and dry. All of this results in a very drinkable IPA.

Hops: Horizon, Centennial, Amarillo, Cascade
Malt: 2-row Pale, Victory, Crystal

Rated 3/29/13. 22 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a dark gold color with middling clarity. The head is an impressive looking four finger (via aggressive pour) offwhite shade. Retention here is quite strong, and as the head slowly recedes, plenty of lacing is left on the glass. S: Big grapefruit here on the nose. A bit of malt sweetness breaks up all the hops, but ultimately, the pine, black pepper, and grapefruit qualities from the hops win out. T: Similar to the aroma, the dominant flavor on the palate is grapefruit-derived hop flavors. I half-expected an upsurge of bitter, piny hop flavors on the back end, but no. The bitterness is really well restrained here, seemingly replaced with savory, nonintrusive caramel malts and bright citrus peel. Nonintrusive is the key word here - to me, an overt malt backbone can kill an IPA worse than excessive hop bitterness can, and this strikes a balance between the two aspects. As it warms up, the flavor really takes on a savory, herbal bend to it, especially on the finish. M: The texture features good dryness, however it could be a bit lighter in my opinion. Still, I like the lack of palate wrecking bitterness here. I’d almost call it ’soft’ - but not quite. O: What a pleasant surprise! I wasn’t really expecting too much here, but I’m honestly impressed with this offering. This is a great example of a ’balanced’ IPA.

12 oz. bottle from Berkeley bowl. It pours a nice rich golden orange color with an off white head. The aroma jumps out as very fruity with lychee, mango, melon and some fruit jellies. Maybe some hints of cat pee, florals and bread. The flavor is similarly hoppy and fairly rich on the palate with more florals, pine, fruit jellies and a solid piney bitterness in the finish. Pretty dry, and not too malty, but it has a pretty substantial toasted bread quality. Really, a nice IPA.

All around solid IPA. Fairly well balanced, but probably 70-30 hops-to-malts bill. Hops are pine, with a wee bit of resin. Good.

The bottle the pour is blonde and slightly cloudy with a light white head that dissipates but not immediately, the aroma is citrus like grapefruit and hops, the taste is lightly sweet on the front end with a nice bitter grapefruit citrus and hop finish, the overall finish is a little bitter with a little bit of sweetness. The mouth feel is medium.

Slightly hazy pale yellow pour with a nice thick white head and lacing. Nice citrus and pine nose (70/30 ratio or so). Nice mouthfeel. Big hop presence. Bitter, but really well balanced by the citrus and pine hops. Pretty solid for a $4 bomber.

Had the nitro version and it was super! Very well balanced and extremely drinkable. Plenty of malt to stand up to the fresh hops. The nitro enhanced the body. Hope I get to try it again.
