OG Wheat gives props to the "Original Gangsters" of the beer scene here in the Northwest. How? We simply jumped in our time machine, hijacked the OG’s and wrote the master recipe. Time for old school to meet the new school.

It poured a golden cloudy color with a white head. The aroma was of spicy wheat and moderate citrus hops. The taste was of wheat and a little caramel, with resiny hops, some citrus and an earthy note.

Bottle from Joe’s. Hazy copper/orange with head and lace. Spicy overripe orange orange marmalade bread clove and a hint of cardboard. Mild tropical fruit sweetness with some overripe oranges and tangy wheat with assertive grapefruit rind spicy bitterness and dry finish. Medium light body, lively carbo accentuates the hops. Very good. Was probably excellent when fresh.

At 10 Barrel brewpub in Bend with Taylor. Pours orange bronze with no head. Aroma is light floral hops melted with wheat, it’s one note and it works. Taste is earthy hops, medium light bitterness, refreshing, grainy hay.

On-tap at Roundhouse Taproom in SoHo, Central and kindly shared by WheatKing. Thanks Adam!

Light golden yellow colour with no yeast sediments; One finger head and crumpety white foam which lasted for 1 minute; Excellent sticky lacing and slight carbonation; Sweet aroma of light ale malt, with very strong passion fruits, jackfruits, strong honey, sugar and faint pine; Medium sweet taste of light Ale malt, with very strong pine, jackfruit, grapefruit, yeast, light bitter hops and grass; Light body. Thin and piney palate; Mouth feel is wheat-thinned Ale with decent maltyness. Strong and tropical passion fruits and jackfruits, plus a full mouthful of pine and hop taste. Interesting!... Hoppiness is tropical fruits and strong pine in nose and taste. Bitterness is moderate to strong for an abrupt hoppy bitter finish; Quite dry after taste. Sweet and fruity to mouth.

Comments: This one’s wheatyness is unassuming but did the job. Strong sweet fruits and massive piney hops may be a bit too much but still quite balanced. Quite a cool one, and if they cut down the sugar a bit the better.

UPDATED: JUL 19, 2014 On tap at Roundhouse, Hong Kong. Pours straw, big white head. Nose is lemon wheatiness, tangerine, pine resin. Flavour is dry, spritzy lemon, clove, no "bubblegum pine" going on, very sessionable. Dry, bitter finish. Yeah I think they’re onto something, when done really well wheat IPAs feel like the future of (non-sour) craft beer.

EDIT: Drinking this again from the bottle at The Globe, Central. Hazy gold. Pineapple, dude. This is just the perfect balance of effervescence and hoppiness that I’m going to go crazy and knock it up to 4.4. This is really, really good. Woohoo I love getting excited over a sessionable.

On tap at the PDX airport - Pours light amber / orange with an off-white head. The aroma has mild malt and lots of hops with floral, grapefruit and evergreen notes. It has a medium body that is between crisp and smooth and has fairly mild carbonation. The flavor begins with toasty malt, spicy hops, zestiness, grapefruit and other fruitiness (not tropical for a change of pace recently). The finish is clean and spicy, but a bit sweeter than the initial taste. Well balanced IPA.

On tap at the brewpub. Clear yellow pour with a white head. Lemony bouquet. Smooth and creamy with mellow wheat and citrus hop notes. Good body and mouthfeel.

Draft pour. Pours golden with fading, fizzy head. A lot of citrus, a lot more so than wheat flavor. Finishes really bitter. Decent, unique IPA.

On tap @ Noble Fir. Pours slightly hazy orange copper with medium white head that laces well. Aroma is light sweet caramel malt, with floral hops. Light but persistent sweetness. Taste is medium caramel malt with sharply bitter hops. Floral, with lesser pine and citrus notes. Wheat flavor is minimal, but there. Gives a nice earthiness to the malt. Balanced and easy drinking, although lingers bitter on the finish.
