COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
2011 Small Batch Series. Precursor is a harbinger of things to come. This Imperial Red is a multi-dimensional creation of malt, hops, and barrel aging, playing off each other. The finished complexity is finished off by eight months of aging in bourbon barrels. Close your eyes, open your mouth, and let yourself wander.

Shared a bottle #1612 out of #2600 bottles. Poured a reddish color with a off-white head. Aroma was sweet fruit notes. Flavor was interesting, fruit notes, with a touch of bourbon.

If you are going to cork a beer use a good cork. Nothing worse than chunks in your beer. That said, this is a really nice brew. Smooth and well balanced. Caramel sweetness mixed with bourbon flavor. Mild hoppy bitterness throughout. Finish has a hint of vanilla to it. Tasty.

Bottle # 1511 of 2,600. The cork was REALLY stuck in there. Took some serious tugging with a rabbit wine opener to get that out of there. A very balanced beer. The bourbon isn’t uber strong but it’s there but the spicy hop notes more than balance things out. Pours a dark red brown. Really digging this.

Bottle #429/2600. Pours a reddish brown with a two finger cream colored head. Smell is mix of sweetness and hops with a hint of alcohol. Bourbon is quite present in the taste, as well as some caramel sweetness, slight hoppiness. Overall good, but a little on the thin side.

2/8/12. 750mL bottle courtesy Tim! Hazy red pour with a small khaki head. Sweet aroma with some alcoholic, almost medicinal notes. Vinous, hoppy flavor hits me at first followed by a bit of a tropical aspect, some sweet malts, and... not a ton else, honestly. Not bad.

Bottle #1491/2600. Pours a dark copper red color with a light tan head that coasters on top. Banana, barrel, and hops. Medium mouthfeel. Nice lace. Hoppy but yet sweet at the same time. Resinous, some grapefruit. Oaky, vanilla.

Bottle shared at a recent BA/RB tasting... A red pour with an off-white head. Good drinking, malty sweet and ester yeast brew with some barrel characters. A hint of citrus and whiskey-like cocktail tones. So simple but a nice complexity.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2012 750mL thanks to brainlair. Clear, deep tea amber. Thickish beige head with wispy to near sheets of lace. Sticky. Nose is apple, plastic, lemon lime chemical, cleaning solution. Taste is lemon, tea, sugary bourbon, red apple juice. Tart, acidic, red apple skin tannic palate. Tea tannic flavor with last minute dark chocolate bitterness.

A hazy puddle of murky brown to the eyes, but Oh Lordy it smells so intricate. Perfect resinous hops play off of complex bourbon esters and a brown sugar sweetness. A mushroom earthiness and a little cheesy funk are there too. Thick. Oh yeah, very well construed. Interesting cheesy notes are definitely there but it’s mostly about the richness underlying the hop content. Slick and syrupy in its sweetness, a boozy heat and vanilla tingle.

Stoke!! 750ml, bottle # 1088. Pours a deep mahogany red. Nose is complex, featuring hints of soft aged bourbon, big plummy malts, and a slight singe of hop. The beginning of each sip starts sweet and tender on the malt side, and progressively melds into a faint vanilla bourbon treat, skirting on top of a pleasantly hopped big red ale. Toffee, grapefruit, pineapple...all finished up with a balanced bourbon end. Damn good stuff if you will...if you will...
