Small Tank Project Series: this is a strange brew from a strange brewer. Containing three varieties of rye, the beer is as viscous as motor oil - just how we like it. We used rye whiskey barrels from high west distillery in Park City, Utah and aged the beer for six months at temperatures that weren’t exactly by the book. It’s anything but ordinary, just like Bobby.

Bottle at RBWG, thanks to Matt. Pours clear amber with a light cream cap. Boozy nose, some semi-dark malts. Big sweet flavor, quite boozy, some caramel, bread. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warm finish with harsh alcohol, rubbing alcohol. Heavy, boozy.

Murky amber pour with an off-white head. Pretty hoppy aroma. Very floral and a decent amount of citrus and vanilla. Tons of rye, oak, dark fruit, and malt sweetness. Flavor is a touch boozy, but not bad. Oak, rye, and dark fruit. Citrus zest, caramel, vanilla, and a bit of booze and bitterness on the finish.

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours dark ruddy amber with a half finger creamy beige head. Aroma is roast malt with a fair amount of rye notes. Very full bodied. Creamy. Flavor is heat enhanced rye. Rye spice. It’s like a flavorful barley wine. Or perhaps a beer aged in fresh oak. If there were more fruit aspects it could be a fantastic quad. Super brilliant ale. Get it if you can.

Certainly an interesting beer. The rye isn’t super vibrant, im just getting standard barley flavors. THe whiskey adds sweetness.

22 ounce bottle wax dipped in red wax. Pours a mostly clear ruby color with a medium white head. A big sweet nose of fruit, vanilla and whiskey. The flavor is initially some tobacco, leather, big fruit, strawberries, later big rye whiskey, earthy, even smoky at times. Huge vanilla. Very good. The barrel addition is just perfect. Mellow and yet big flavors.

Bottle:   Deep amber, thick, moderate to large frothy off-white head, nice lacing.   Sweet pale bready nose, strong melon and pale biscuity notes.   Strong breadiness up front, noticeable alcohol.   Has a heavy fruitiness to it as well.   If the Rye is there its real sweet.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Big pale bready finish, fruity, slight alcohol.   Not sure on the Rye aspect as this one seems too big that it overshadows any rye.   While not alcoholic, its very warming.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Bready finish, soft melon like fruitiness, slight alcohol.   Not all that easy to finish as its a little cloying.   Its like a big American Tripel that isn’t as sweet as others.   Meh... decent in small doses.   Took me a while to finish the bomber.

22, capped and waxed. Pours a cloudy dark mahogany with a gigantic dense and creamy tan head. Lots of webby lace. Big peppery sweet rye nose, smells like good dark bread. Creamy medium body with pleasant carb. Caramel, toast, black pepper, and a hint of orange peel on the mid palate. Mild black pepper finish. Nice beer.

2/22/13. Rare waxed dipped walez, bro! at RBWG thanks to Matt! Ruddy amber pour with a decent khaki head. Rich aroma with rye spice, plenty of whiskey and barrel character, and some sweet malts, caramel, and breadiness. Rich malty flavor as well, again with a big rye and rye whiskey punch, with a wisp of smoke and alcohol. Not bad.

"Seemingly hoppier in the nose than it really is thanks to shit tons of rye. Really nice beer at 10+%. Complex malts and spice, some earthy hops, and an increasing rye whiskey barrel presence as the beer warms. I really liked this one."
