3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This was poured into a pilsener.
The appearance was a nice looking dark brown color with a closeness to black about it. A two and a half finger white foamy head dissipated within less than a minute. Clingy rings of white foaminess graces itself around the glass.
The smell started off with a slight roasty combined dark fruity (mainly raisins, sweet grapes).
The taste was mostly sweet and sticky adding a bit of roast (slightly chocolate and coffee). Lingering roasty to sweet fruity chocolatey aftertaste leading a to gentle semi-dry finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a semi-sessionable aspect about it. The carbonation was fairly mild but I considered that still to be okay.
Overall, in my opinion, this was a pretty good schwarzbier, though it started off fruity, the roast did eventually show its presence.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Looks mostly black. Smells roasty dark sweet and like an ale. Not too thick on the palate like a stout might be but nice a lighter.

At beer night all tasters were not impressed with this beer, especially for 10 barrel. Is it a heifer Busch. Taste was flat and not much going on with pallet.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: FEB 21, 2015 A nice easy to drink black ale. Not near as sophisticated as some, which cost some points in a few categories. Very faint chocolate nose out of a black, red tinged pour. Mild chocolate flavor mixed with fruit undertones like cherry and raisin. There is a sweet note just before a very mild bitter finish.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A decent black ale, but hoped for more layers. Pours a deep black with a thin tan head. Smells of candied raisins and cinnamon. Taste is quite creamy, with espresso upfront, but unfortunately a bit of an empty finish. Had in the bottle.

Bottle - Toasted malts and light cocoa. Deep jet brown with a decent light brown head. Lots of toast, light bitterness and some chocolate. A bit too rich for the style.

Very bland. Reasonably nice aroma, almost no head, very dark, too light. Not enough flavor for me.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Aroma: moderately sweet coffee and chocolate. Appearance: no head with no lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Clear, dark-red/brown body. Taste: moderately sweet and smokey initial taste and finish with average duration. Palate: medium bodied with creamy texture and lively carbonation. Overall: very good. The smokey flavor balances with the sweetness.

"Sinistor Black ale on the label. Surprise of the night. Very nice huge roasted malt aroma with a touch of smoke and chocolate. thin but smooth with a nice dry flavor. well done...more of a rauschbier than a porter, though."
