"Sinistor Black ale on the label. Surprise of the night. Very nice huge roasted malt aroma with a touch of smoke and chocolate. thin but smooth with a nice dry flavor. well done...more of a rauschbier than a porter, though."

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bomber for an astonishing $2.98 at Winco on Fairview… are you kidding me?! Prices like this take me back, damn that’s reasonable. Dark brown pour with a thin ring of beige head, decent sheets of lacing. Smells a bit more like a porter; lightly sweet and roast. Ever so slight pine. I’m finding it to be a little watery… there are faint hints of rubbing alcohol too. Sort of creamy in feel and relatively mild in flavor. Light roast and just the slightest hint of smoke. Maybe some bananas too. I guess I’m sort of bummed because I thought this was a black IPA when I bought it… turns out to be a Schwarz. Either way it just wasn’t my thing.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught at BevX360, Bellingham, 5.4% ABV
said to be top fermented…
Black color with creamy head. The aroma is very nice, roasted malts and wood oven bread. The mouthfeel is a bit weak, the dark malt provides some light sourness, and the bitterness is quite low.
An interesting semi-experiment.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Smells like bananas, nice. Does taste like most dark ales, the roasting so Is faint and the tart banana flavors are strong IMO. I like it, very drinkable.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Serving: from tap at Bennett’s Fish Shack.
Aroma: moderately sweet coffee and chocolate.
Appearance: no head with no lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Clear, dark-red/brown body.
Taste: moderately sweet and smokey initial taste and finish with average duration.
Palate: medium bodied with creamy texture and lively carbonation.
Overall: very good. The smokey flavor balances with the sweetness.

At 10 Barrel brewpub in Bend with Taylor. Pours lack with almost no head. Aroma is light thin nutty roasted malt. Taste is nutty roast, very nice, drinkable. I like it as a session beer.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is dark brown to black.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (roasted grain, husks, cocoa), with notes of car tires, paint.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, unclean.
Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
A disturbingly dirty, phenolic sample...smells pretty strongly of chemicals/petrolates. Hope for the brewery’s sake this isn’t how it always is.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Not very well acclimated to this style. I enjoy the black malts here greatly. But there’s some kind of sweetness that is slightly offputting. Nevertheless, quite good.
