3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
What the hell just happened. Gose. Smoked. Aged in Red Wine. Flavor was all over the place. Interesting and good, but not something I would go for every day. Glad the Porter gave me the opportunity to try this brew.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: APR 1, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Mike! Almost completely opaque, goldenrod and muddled. Thin white ring. Aroma of some sweet smoked malt, light lemon drops, a touch of wet, blanket must, and a little tiny bit of perfume and acidity in the finish. Taste is like a lemon drop dipped in liquid smoke... Lightly sweet, somewhat meaty but not as smoke heavy as the regular. A little more tart but still not sour. Very mild must funk, but the Brett is quite hidden. Light tart finish, lighter smoke and some faint acidity.

Bottle: The aroma consists of smoky bacon (not as smoky as the regular) with a hint of lemon. It pours a dull yellow with a small white head that quickly fades to a thin film. The flavor starts with light smoky bacon. The finish has moderate tart lemon with a touch of must and grass. I?m not getting much brett. It?s light bodied with moderate carbonation.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Sampled at WtWBA 2013 in Brooklyn. Pours a hazy golden body with thin white lacing. Aroma is bandaids and smoked wheat. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of wheat, grain, smoked malt and light funk. Overall, I wasn’t a huge fan of this.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Served in my new Westbrook glassware. Thank you Brad!
The beer is hazy and straw yellow with over an inch of white head after an aggressive pour. The head hisses and disappears completely within seconds. The aroma brings campfire smoke, a la German rauchbiers. Tart lemons, juice, grass. The wine barrel certainly adds presence to the aroma, but this aspect of the beer shines more in the flavor. So many interesting things happening here. It’s quite a feat to marry these bold and complex characteristics and have everything cooperate this well. An unusual take on a Berliner. I applaud Westbrook for making the most interesting beer (that actually tastes good) that I’ve had in quite some time.

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle... RBWG 2013… This beer rocks!… Hazy light-yellow ale with a huge, fluffy, white head. Decent retention. The bouquet furnishes big-time applewood-smoked meat, light funkiness, mild breadiness and nice acidity. Light bodied and a hint abrasive with fizzy carbonation. The flavor provides loads of crystal clean, citrusy tartness flanked by a lesser feature of smoked meat. Short, crisp, Mojave-dry finish. Crazy drinkable and insanely unique. I can see this being a love-hate type of brew, but in my case… More Please! Thanks go out to ygtbsm94 for generously providing this bottle of world class beer!

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Unique, salty, lemony, and bit of subtle funk aroma. Slightly tart (although less than the non-Brett version), smooth.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Had this at Where The Wild Beers Are. Pours a hazed gold with a thin white head. As Matt put it “This smells like someone lit a pile of bandaids on fire.” Lots of smoke and wheat on the nose, and some definite bandage aromas. Leads into grain and wheat, smokey with some salinity. Toast and warmth, sourness and more salt. Soft and smokey. Unexciting for me.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750ml from CBX, Charleston. Not having tried the less-than-total brett version, I’m at a loss as to how this compares to the original. But I enjoyed it considerably, almost like a brett gotlandsdricka or something. Deep golden pour, well carbonated, the nose was quirky and appealing: musty oak, vinous notes, plenty brett, and a suggestive smokiness. Pleasant mouthfeel, a bit perky and mildly acetic. Flavors were quite nice too, with the smoke understated and some pronounced citrus coming through, wine barrel framing the whole thing. Unexpected and very satisfying.
