4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Really enjoyed this one. It was reminiscent of some of the pumpkin-spice beers I’ve tried over the years. Didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. The kummel and anis seed are very noticeable in the flavor. The palate was a bit thin. Very pleasant, spicy aroma. Appearance a bit on the thin side--looks like a kristal-weisse, though not much of a head on this beer. Not sure I’d want to drink more than one of these at a time, but it was certainly worth a try, for the more adventurous.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Trying to be objective. Why do I buy these spiced ales when I know I hate them? Anyway, this was light and refreshing. The spices weren’t overdone (I still hated it though). If I liked spiced beers, I would probably have loved this one. Ginger was prominent in the flavor with other spices (I actually could taste the rosemary!). Unique and pretty good for the style, BUT...all this beer proves is that spices have been screwing things up for over 700 years now.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle thanks to Blake! Poured hazy, paler golden with a short cap of white head. The aroma was all about the crazy spices.. bay leaves and rosemary led with plenty of mint in there as well.. some sweet backing, but it didn’t do a whole lot. The flavor was along those same lines with bay leaves taking over.. some other spices too, but it was hard to get past the bay leaves.. finished with about the same. Lighter-bodied and remarkably interesting, but I couldn’t take that much bay leaf.. weird.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
And just like that we’re off to the 13th century, gruit-style!
Appearance: Pours a cloudy, pale yellow body with a tall, white head.
Smell: Anise and ginger are at the fore followed by various herbs and flowers and even a pinch of lemon peel.
Taste: Touch of soft wheat, then it’s time for the spices and seasonings. Bay leaves, anise, and an assortment of herbs. Spicy ginger taste grows and accumulates on the tongue. Floral character throughout. Strong anise flavor as well. Lemony hints here and there. Finishes quite crisp and drying.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-high carbonation.
Drinkability: It’s different, it’s interesting, and it’s even refreshing. A fine way to revisit the oft overlooked 13th century. Now I look forward to a beer representing the Protestant Reformation of the 15th and 16th centuries.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
[Bottle] shared by OSLO. Pours a hazy straw gold with a small, soapy whitish head. Aroma is wheaty and astringent, vics vapor rub, and mint. Flavor matches the aroma, thin, tastes like an herb garden. Black walnut husks.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from South Bay Drug. Hazy, dirty gold color with a light white head. Spice. Think there’s bay and ginger aromas. A bit thin with frothy carbonation. Flavor is "grutty". Bay and ginger predominate. A good and different beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
500ml bottle. Murky pale yellow with a fizzy white head. The spices hit your nose as soon as it’s poured, strongly herbal, ginger, lemon and something spearmint like. Light, bouncy body that somehow comes off somewhat soft. Ginger flavors up front, then rosemary, leading to and herbal lemon finish, much like a lemon herbal cough drop. Pretty damn tasty beer - surprising.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled. Awesome aroma, loaded with of spices, including lots of anise, lavender, ginger, yeast, even some chili. Fantastic. So complex. Has a lovely though subtle flavor, not nearly as spicy as the aroma, with a light, and a touch tart body. Easy drinking and refreshing, with an awesome complexity. I absolutely love this series they are doing.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours to a hazy pale yellow body and thin white head. The aroma is bay leaves and rosemary. Smells of beef stew. The flavor is very savory. Light anise, rosemary, and bay leaves. "Spicy" but not "spiced". More main dish soup-like. Light acid-less lemon flavor.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
50cl bottle from Kingdom Liquors (Tampa, FL). Pours a cloudy bright yellow color with a thick and foamy one finger white head that settles quickly. Aroma is zesty and spicy with clear notes of ginger, some slight honey, and an earthy herbal essence. Flavor is interesting -- reminds me of a cross between a spiced citrus juice and menthol. Clear notes of lemon and zest with strong herbs and spices. Generally light body but with a tangy and spicy finish that lingers long after the beer is gone. Interesting ale.
