Savinjski is a Slovenian hop breed. Thanks to our friend Matthew Charlesworth, owner / master brewer of Human Fish Brewery Slovenia, who made connection between 1516 Brewing Company & Slovenian Hop Growers. New Arima Hops, what to do? Or brew? Well, Imperial IPA. Learning by doing. Imperial IPAs are a stronger version of an IPA. Stronger in gravity & even hoppier. Yes, the Savinjski Imperial IPA is even stronger & more bitter than our Hop Devil. We only serve it in 0,3l max, sorry. It sends you right where you wanna go anyway. And if you ever hit Ljubljana, look & ask where to get a Pint of Human Fish. Malts: Belgian Pale Ale, Crystal, Cara Aroma Hops: Slovenian Magnum, Savinjski (Whole Leaf)

Draught at brewpub, Vienna, Austria. Poured a cloudy nearly opague red-brown with a one-finger light beige foamy head that collap sed quickly. Low carbonation. Aroma of subtle pine. Taste initally of sweet caramel malt followed by roasted grain and ending with a slight hops bitterness. Light to medium body. Short smooth sweet then slightly bitter finish. Quite a good beer.

On tap at the brewpub, Vienna. As far as I know I had the regular (not ’2.0’) version. Pours clear ruby with a soft, foamy head. Has some thick and resinous pine in the nose. Flavor holds some caramel and berries; it’s quite sweet. Also notes of pine, further caramel and toast. medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming in the finish with more toasty caramel sugar, sticky pine and candy. Very decent.

Geiserich (4091) - Linz, AUSTRIA - NOV 2, 2011
Draught: Amber color, off-white frothy head. Intensive cascade aroma. Flavor is light sweet and malty, velvety texture, herbal and complex hop notes, very bitter finish.
