Cask, at Newark Beer Festival, May 2004. Notes recovered from a recently unearthed old notebook. Copper colour. Fruity and slightly nutty malt dominates. It is smooth and a touch sweet but I’m not sure I’d call it rich. Seemed a bit lacking in hop bite. Could use some more bitterness to balance things out. Condition not too lively either, which didn’t help. Not really my sort of bitter to be honest.

Bottle. Huge creamy head with excellent duration. Color is dark brown. Aroma and taste are roast malt, nuts, spices, fruits, berries,c aramel and hops. If it wasnt for the label I would have expected this to be the winter warrant.

Bottle 500ml.

Clear dark brown colour with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, leather, light licorice - berry. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20111208]

Bottled. Mediumsized beigeish brown foamy head on a deep ruby red body. Aroma is fruity, mild acidic wooden notes as well as some slight wooden notes. Flavour is quite much the same, but also has some mild raisins and toasted notes to it.

Bottle. Very dark brown with a thin beige foam. Aromas are dark syrup with dark chocolate and some salted nuts. Leather with dark berries and caramel. Flavours are dark chocolate bitterness with woody and nutty notes. Thin malts with soda water character and a fruity bitterness. OK.

Hmmm - what I had was a stout
Cask (Market Porter)
7 Lovely dark chocolate aroma, but with a dark berry sharpness.
5 Beautifully deep reddy brown, gorgious cappuccino head.
8 Dark berries again in the retronasals. Stunning mellow chocolate taste, rich and roasty and a touch burnt, but nowhere near ashy. So full but so mellow.
5 Soft and succulent in the mouth. Finish soft and chocolatey.
15 Such an easy full-flavoured stout. Session this to hell and back.

Cask@The Magpie and Crown, Brentford. Bit sour and acidic, in a lactic, not-so-pleasant, kinda way, i think i got the last of the cask. Yeasty, shortbread and butterscotch, lemony finish.
