3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
.5 l bottle. Got this in 2007 and cellared it. Why? I don’t think I quite worked that a beer that "keeps" isn’t the same as one that ages well. So let’s do this. Tart fruit under the cap. Pours a lot of white foam over a clear golden beer. I can’t remember having many sour beers this clear and light, except for other Berliners. Sour cherry in nose, but quite light. Foam is gone pretty quickly. Leaves behind a beer that I wouldn’t quite call "sour" like so many Flemish ales. A bit puckery, yes, but malty as any German lager. Sourness builds as I go further into the beer, like escalating heat when I eat a chile pepper. Like they say, a zesty and refreshing beer style, and this is a nice example. Surprised to find some yeast slurry at the bottom. Has anyone tried to recultivate it?

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
16 oz. bottle poured to a weissebier bowl at Lunar Brewing Co., displaying a clear & bright golden color, with a presentable layer of white foam that quickly diminished to a ring & film, and left some fleeting spots of lacing on the glass. The nose was quite tart, fruity, lemon & orange, with a touch of Brett. Light bodied with spritzy effervescence, the taste retained a bit of yeastiness, and was very lacto-astringent, dry, and palate cleansing, but not out of control. Very flavorful with or without syrup.

Very good and very lemony. Not sure what else to say to fill 75 characters. An easy drinker, that's for sure.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a cloudy pale yellow with a thin white head. Aroma of bread dough. Taste is quite lemony tart (as a Weisse should be), some pale malt sweetness, yeastiness and a refreshing close.

No head. Feared it would be flat. Pleasantly surprised. Crisp. I like sour. Almost cider like.

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Cloudy pale yellow with spongy white head, doughy aroma, sour citrusy taste with abrupt but sour finish. Very much unexpected after the first impression on aroma!

2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
A- Lemons, tart, funky, barnyard, yeasty, sour.
A- Yellow color, cloudy liquid, white head.
T- Sour, tart, lemons, funk, sweet.
P- Light body, sour texture, medium carbonation, funky finish.
O- I’ve concluded that this style is not my favorite style by any means. The 1809 seemed to be one of the best I have had however. The lactic tartness is very strong and the barnyard aromas are not quite a turn on for me.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
If you look up Berliner Weisse in a book of beer styles, it’s likely that 1809 will be featured in a photograph near the entry. As one of the textbook examples of the style, 1809 features all of the proper characteristics. You can expect a lively yellow body with a fizzy head and a big yeast aroma. The flavors are true to form as well. The yeast creates flavors that are tart, fruity, and acidic. The sourness is reminiscent of lemon and raspberry. This Berliner Weisse is faithful to the history and nuances of this style. It’s also just a damn good beer.

Wow what a surprise. Just picked this up randomly at the corner store. Smells like horse barn and citrus. Sour, light, effervescent, very thirst-quenching. The perfect summer ale.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
The best Berliner Weiße I habe drunk yet.
It has this tart, fruity smell, which is reflected in the the taste, which is tart(but not puckering) and has this fruity(apricot?!) notes(heterofermentative lacto?) Perfect for hot days. A lot oft Berliners are just to sour to be refreshing in larger quantities, this one nails the balance.
The only point oft critique ist the appeareance, no head and Linda cloudy, but this is due to the style
