A collaboration beer we brewed with Louisville, KY’s Against The Grain Brewery. ’KILLWITTE’ is a smoked witbier with Mosaic and a touch of Warrior. "Conceived in the shadow of a forgotten city by a beacon of light on 18th Street in the 46403. Contrived in collaboration by the kindred spirits from the 40202... Killewitte is a collision of flavors shrouded in smoke. Brewed with a blend of Mosaic & Amarillo hops; and a dose of orange wood & coriander smoked malt from Against The Grain Brewery... Bright, citrus hopped, and soft spicy flavors cut through a haze of delicate smoke like a kilowatt bulb on a dark street lamp in Gary. As light and effervescent as any perfect summer beer, KilleWitte was designed to assault your taste buds like a college age anarchist on a op ed writing rampage.....wait, what did you think this was about? Drink up, its witbier."

On tap at brewpub
Of all the beers on draft this one was the most disappointing. That established, it is still a respectable wit beer for longer sessions. Perhaps it was the fact that this was my last sample but I was not terribly disappointed to bypass this a week later at the Great Taste of the Midwest. Your mileage may vary though and there is little risk in a four ounce sample.

Aroma / Appearance - The bronze polished base shines like copper pennies. A fluid texture retains wheat and a rubbery meaty texture. This is where the problems arise. Whatever it is meant to be it feels off the mark.

Flavor / Palate - Wheat and malt rise from the glass. The next flavor is a bit shocking however. The taste of brisket makes me wonder what went into this recipe. Maybe there was something in the tap line. Whatever the reason at some point I will have to try this again. I’m sure that it has to be better than my initial impressions.

Bomber, love the aroma of mild citrus and spice, cloudy yellow with good head. Has a strong taste of fruit and malt backbone. This is a great Belgian white!

If you're looking for a light, wheaty beer that's also smokey, then you're all set. Some spice and citrus notes and residual sweetness.

Slightly hazy golden with an absolutely lovely nose of fresh coriander and pepper, with a kiss of citrus and wheat. Spicy herbal and really earthy flavor of crushed pepper and wheat and loads of earthy coriander. Very earthy and herbal, big and flavorful witte for a change. Just a kiss of grapefruit rind on the finish.

Taster at AtG brewery - nose is smokey wheat. What a treat to have a second smoked beer in one session. Wife says, "taste like a campfire full of flaming horse poop." I think it’s swell. Maybe she can detect Gary, IN.

Pint on tap at Max’s. Hazy golden with a lasting film of cream. Aroma is smoked meat fading quickly to toasted grain and dry grass. Taste is initally some nice smoke and corn but devolves into a bit of a toasted corny mess with some herb and grassy hop on the finish. Light-medium body has a nice balance and a high carbonation. OK experiment, but really a bit befuddled and not really either a distinguished Wit or Smoked. Beyond that it’s not really tasty enough to seek out again.

Tap at Max’s. Pours clear gold with a small, fizzy white head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is smoked malt, spicy and earthy wheat malt with light earthy hops. Flavor is smoked malt, light hops and bitterness, earthy notes and a dry finish. Light body and medium carbonation.
