Tap at 1st anno party: Deep brown near opaque with a small but lasting head, not much lace. Surprised on how much coffee is still present even after aging. Roasty, mocha, molasses, graham crackers, tobacco and nice cleansing alcohol. YUMMY

22 oz bottle gifted by Kenny, many thanks! Pours a clear dark brown/near black with light passing as a dark crimson hue. Head is a lasting beige wisp across the meniscus with spotty lacing on the rim of the glass. Aroma is chocolate and coffee bitterness. Flavor is same with oak, whiskey and vanilla complexity. Full bodied, moderate carbonation and complex coffee chocolate finish.

TheAlum (6193) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - APR 1, 2014
Draft on tap at Goose Island Stout Fest 2014 (Chicago, IL). Pours a nice deep blackish hue, opaque with decent legs. A touch of brownish glow on the edges. Frothy brownish head dies down, laces ok. Aromas are richer fresh roast coffee, gentle oak and whiskey, a touch of vanillin, touches of fudge and caramel. A bit sweeter and richer. Initial medium bodied, a touch lighter with firmer coffee, dryness and roast. Touches of earth, ash, caramel. The body shows a bit more life, coffee a bit more complexity. Wet oak, gentle whiskey spirit, vanilla. Backend is a bit toasty, dry and roasty coffee, touches of earth and ash. Finish is dry, roasty and coffee elements hanging on, touches of barrel and spirit. Nice flavors. An improvement over vanilla, the coffee cuts through the more assertive barrel and while differing from Hunter, offers it’s own enjoyable and potent flavor element, richer coffee and lingering sustained barrel, espresso, and gentle fudgey mocha. Tasty.
