Draft on tap at Goose Island Stout Fest 2014 (Chicago, IL). Pours a nice deeper blackish brown hue, largely opaque with decent legs on the swirl, touches of brownish glow are gentle on the edges. Frothy brownish head atop is smaller, sticks around small and laces minimally. Aromas show some decent toast and roast, a firmer spirit barrel element shows whiskey, vanilla and wet wood. Touches of toast, biscuit and carmelized malts. Gentle chocolate and gentle lactose elements. Initial is medium bodied, a bit thin and gently oaky, some firmer warmth and spirit starts to hit, nice roast, depleted body loses some of that sweeter caramel, chocolate and sweetness, creamy silky body dies out a bit. This one seems stronger or over barreled compared to the other treatments, somehow. Middle is a bit sticky, caramel and toast meet some fudge, gentle oak and spirit. More earth, ash, wet wood and roast hits the backend. Firmer barrel, tannic wood and a bit of warmth. The finish is dry and roasty, a bit overdone if you ask me. Maybe its just what I had before this but for some reason, coming back to this one just felt much different than the treated versions. My least favorite of the 3. And seems to waste a bit of what unbarreled Hunter does so well on its own.

GI Stout Fest. Pours a dark brown with a medium brown head. Nutty aroma with a slight woody barrel character. Taste follows the aroma but with a hot bourbon kick to it. Medium thick body.
