A French Saison. A Father’s lover for his first daughter reaches beyond the moon and stars. CHLOE is as sweet as she was the day she was born: bold and spirited with a passion that could stop a train, yet delicate and graceful like a stroll through Partisan streets. Subtle tartness and citrus notes of Hibiscus balance this French Saison in the sweet caress of the blood orange.

Slight haze, pale gold with thin eggshell colored head and very thin collar. Aroma is of white grape and a faint light malt sweetness. Medium carbonation and light body. Chalky mouthfeel. Taste is like sparkling white grape juice up front, minerally at the end, and banana bread like in the middle.

Sample at Kurtkeller 004: Pipeworks-tastic 01 on 01/18/2014. Hazy orange-gold color with a medium white head that recedes gradually. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of fruit, yeast and hops. Medium-bodied with flavors of fruity yeast, malt and floral hops. The finish is fruity up front with an herbal yeast aftertaste. Decent overall.

draft at belgian fest. pours hazy blonde/gold with foamy white. aroma is floral, peppery, some banana. flavor is rather sweet with some peppery yeast notes, touch clovey. feels really standard/middle of the road saison fermented with the french saison strain. not bad in any way but nothing remarkable either.

Draft pour on tap at Clybourn’s Belgian Fest 2013 (Chicago, IL). Pours a well hazed murky golden hue, almost like homemade applesauce. Some frothy whitish head dies to a small ring, laces small. A bit herbal and floral on the nose, decent yeast, some earth, with gentle sticky doughy malts. Initial is medium bodied, bready and grainy, some gentle apple and fruit. Some grain, straw, gentle apple and citrusy orange at times. Middle is a bit sweet and bready, some grain, straw, sweeter bready dough. Backend is a bit more citrusy, orange and lemon meet some grass, dough, mellow yeastiness. Some warmth from the ABV. Finish is a touch sticky and faint carmelized. A bit of grapefruit, white grape at times. A bit bland and sticky as we finish. Ok, a bit messy for me.

750ml Bottle and served in my PW snifter: Pours a very hazy unfiltered golden hue with a fizzy fading head. The aroma has notes of oranges, flowers, pale and caramel grains, banana and peppery yeast esters. The taste starts with a zing of tart fruit along with some spicy notes. Midsection is a tad malty and under developed leading to a fading short finish that is mostly yeast driven spices. The mouth feel is thin but not all that crisp but does have a mouth watering tart character. The muddled malt tone sort of took me back. The fruity and spicy nature is the best part of this brew. Cleaner and crisper malt profile could make this a winner... too American not enough French.
