3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22oz bottle from Binny’s Lincoln Park. Batch #3. Pours a black body with a finger-width, creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is bigger oranges and grapefruits with plenty of florals and pines. Chocolate, caramel, and a nice roast backing. Flavor is similar. Juicy oranges and grapefruits with a solid chocolate and caramel malt backing. Florals, resiny pines, and a bit of an herbal note as this finishes dry, bitter, juicy, and a bit roasty. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty solid Black IPA. Juicy and bitter with a balanced roast and light malt sweetness. Good one.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber. Pours a dark brown (almost opaque... unless you stick it under a halogen lamp) with a thin off-white head, and okay lacing. Nose is slightly dank hops, some hay, roasted barley and malt. Mouth is very dry, medium-full bodied with a slight bit of ash mingling with the pronounced Amarillo hops and roast up front, citrus and grassy notes follow, bitternbess throughout. Decent.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours mild black without any head. Aroma is fragrant of orange, roast malts, and burnt bread. Bitter on the front and then finishes with an emphasis on the orange. The chocolate advertised doesn’t show through as much to me. Unique for sure but not a favorite.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber bottle and served in tulip: Basically very deep brown with an initially fluffy off-white head, very good lacing. The aroma has notes of lightly citric and tropical fruity hops, a bit catty, oniony and grassy too. The malt smell of roast, coffee, burnt bread and a touch of powered chocolate. The taste is moderately hoppy and fruity with a fair amount of ashy char tones. Wished that there was not a plastic-y note around the edges however. The mouth feel is lively and aggressive, as noted above ashy and charred finish. A solid Black DIPA but something just does not hit on all cylinders to be almost my favorites of the genre.
