3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 bluebetty (879) - AUSTRALIA - JUL 16, 2011
Bottle. Pours dark brown with red tings down the side of the glass. Light beige rocky head. Disappears very quickly leaving only the thinest film. Aromas of floral hops, a little pine resin and nice light caramel. Was expecting a little more hop character but what was there was nicely balanced by the light caramel. Flavours were initially dominated by the malt but are not overly sweet. Some hop bitterness comes through on the finish as does a little nutty grain. Medium mouthfeel. Not too bad.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 davidm (1357) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - JUL 9, 2011
Bottle 330ml at Mrs Parma’s. Very well-balanced ale. Aromas of caramel, grass, and cola. Taste is sweet and bitter, with good length. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Brown, cloudy, with a frothy white head.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Davros (1014) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - APR 6, 2011
Pours deep ruby tinged copper with a lasting head.
Nose shows a rich mix of hops and malt. Big piney, resinous, earthy and minty notes from the hops, while the malt adds prominent caramel, nutty and toasty characters. Very nice!
Very similar hop profile as flavours, but in the way of malt only the nutty characters continue to stand out. Really needs more caramel to flesh it out.
Body feels a little watery.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 hawthorne00 (1431) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAR 25, 2011
Bottle, 4C. Clear dark amber, less than a coat of off white head. Modest aroma of caramel, plums, raisins, grass. Taste has firm malt with just caught caramel, hints of fruit, plain chocolate and a drying hop presence at the end that doesn’t quite register as bitterness. As cold as it’s recommended it’s not very sweet at all and the malt flavours are varied and harmonious.
