Tried on tap at the brewery. Colour looks appropriate for a brown ale. Notice the American hops on the aroma first up then sweet malts moreso afterwards. Grainy, caramel (light) and a vague hint of burnt notes in the taste. A little too sweet for my liking but looked popular on the night.

330ml bottle. Light brown to black in colour with a modest light beige head settling quickly. Aroma of smoke and burnt , roasted malt that is as pleasing as the flavour. Hints of chocolate croissant in the flavour, which is light in the mouth.

Bottle. Chocolate and caramel on the nose. Chocolate again in the flavour, along with earthiness and minerally. Solid.
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 jonno (2001) - JAPAN - MAY 11, 2011
Tap. Heavy, malty brown ale. Really struggled to finish a pint of this. Dull, flat toffee throughout with little hop bite. Very macro tasting and more than a bit disappointing. Great tap handle though.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 hawthorne00 (1856) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - FEB 5, 2010
UPDATED: AUG 5, 2010 Bottle. Brown, disappearing light beige head. Nuts and toast aroma. Just sweet and very nutty flavour. Very mouthfilling malt - with dark fruit, nuts and light roast - but is a long way from cloying. Hints of spice and citrus hops in a subtle finish. Balanced and tasty.

Tap. Great beer. Aromas of cola, and caramel. Taste is sweet, with long length. Palate is silky, and medium bodied. Brown, with a frothy white head.

Good stuff this and surely positioning itself as one of the country’s best brown ale / porter styles. Soft but oh so well balanced with chocolate and roasted malts. Some mild astrigency and a faint hop character purrs mildly on the finish. I’m not particularly fond of the style but this works well.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 maneliquor (1553) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - FEB 12, 2012
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Dark chestnut pour with a small off white head. Doesn’t last. Aroma picks up lots of citrus hoppage over roasted, biscuity malts. Works well and the hop bitterness gives it a little pazzaz. Solid stuff. Citrus hoppage over doughy bread and buttery biscuit in the taste. Nice hop bitterness to finish with. Solid beer

Draught at Mrs Parmas, Melbourne. It’s dark brown with a small creamy off-white head. Plenty of toasted malt, nuts and citrusy hops. Nicely balanced and good hoppy bitterness and malty finish. A nice take on a brown ale.
