3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Davros (1014) - Melbourne, - JAN 2, 2011
Pours dark brown with a tiny head.
Nose shows loads of chocolate, banana, golden syrup, coffee and creme brulee. Very sweet... incredibly so. Like a chocolate/coffee liqueur.
Similar flavours but more roasty character rather than just an overload of syrupy sweetness. Too much alcohol shows though.
Body seems a little watery for these flavours.

Bottles. I found the chocolate and cloves flavours an interesting mix. The palate was pretty dry.

Bottle. Pours a very oily looking dark brown with mahogany flashes down the side of the glass. Smallish tan coloured head falls away very quickly leaving only the thinest film. Aromas are a little odd. Bubblegum, chocolate, a little roasted grain and a fair whack of alcohol. Dont really think this works to be honest. Flavours of roasted grain, a weird sourness and plenty of alcohol. Thinnish mouthfeel. Dont really get this one.

Not too sure what this is trying to be? I saw it as more of a lighter weight imperial stout with the zinfandel-like fruitcake flavours a core component of the style. Slutty and seductive as the fruitcake and mineral underlay is sweet and pretty, and there’s a touch of chocolate and roast on this finish. Not for the classically trained palate!
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 jonno (1448) - JAPAN - DEC 31, 2010
Bottle for NYE. Highly alcoholc on the nose and in the mouth. Like rubbing alcohol. Despite this there is something interesting going on with the dark fruit body. Then the fuselage hits the pallate at the end. Reminds me of above average homebrew. These guys need to learn to mask the alcohol then this could be very good.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 hawthorne00 (1431) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - NOV 27, 2010
Bottle. Clear chestnut brown with a tiny beige head at the rim that hangs about. Aroma of dried bananas and brown sugar or dark rum, hazelnuts. I hate bananas but don’t mind dried bananas for some reason. Taste is very sweet and follows the aroma until finishing drying grassy bitterness tidies up very effectively. Hides the alcohol pretty well. Very sweet and could use a bit more carbonation, but hangs together all right.

Tried on tap at the Sail and Anchor Night of the Barrels. Taste is a sweet, probably a little too sweet for me to fully enjoy, didn’t notice the alcohol, a brown ale with lots of sugar, .

Local taphouse. Fantastic. Poured a dark brown, almost black. Slightly off white head. aroma was spicy and sweet malt. Huge in flavour. The flavour was completely dominated by a banana like ester. This was really quite amazing. Also a bit of stone fruity, raisin type flavours there in the mix.

On tap. This was my favourite at last night’s Vicotiran Microbrewers showcase. It is very malty, with almost salty chocolate tones. With no real fizz it still feels very full-bodied in the mouth. I’ll be back for more of this.
