330ml bottle. Sweet chocolate aromas mixed with coffee beans and roasted malt. Black with a tan head that collapses quickly. Smooth in the mouth with bitter sweet chocoalte flavour with a tongue coating silky velvet mouthfeel. Robust, a meal in a glass.

Dark brown to black, thin fading tan head (from the bottle). All chocolate & coffee smells up front. Lovely roasty flavours, plenty of dark chocolate and some stewed fruitiness in there as well. Well balanced with a nicely bitter finish. Perhaps just a little thin. Great beer, really enjoyed it.

Pours very dark brown with a small fading head. Nose shows lots of sweet malt, with chocolate, hazelnut and vanilla notes. Reminiscent of pralines and chocolate syrup. Loads more nutty notes as flavours along with chocolate and roasted coffee. Finishes on an cloyingly sweet bready note. Carbonation is a bit too high.

Bottle. Black body with short off-white head. Dark fruit on the nose along with alcohol and liquorice. Not too heavy in body, mainly just the fruit notes without too much else.

Bottle. Very dark pour with ruby highlights and a short tan head that quickly disappears. Roasty aroma with coffee and dark chocolate notes and hints of dark fruit. Flavour is very similar to the aroma but with prominent but restrained sweetness, more pronounced dark fruit notes and a hint of berries. Mouthfeel is slick and oily but slightly thin with moderate to low carbonation and a short, dry, bittersweet finish. Not exactly a classic example of the style but quite pleasant anyway and very easy to drink.

hawthorne00 (1431) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - SEP 21, 2010
Bottle. Dark brown with a small tan head that dissipates. Aroma of chocolate, prunes, cherries, coffee and licorice. Taste has a tiny bit of roasted malt, more dark stewed fruit and chocolate. Silky mouthfeel with just a hint of carbonation. Sweet with a touch of bitterness at the finish. Subtle and good.

Tap. Great beer. Aroma has lots of chocolate and coffee. Flavour is sweet all the way, with lingering bitterness. Velvety in the palate. Black, with a lasting white head.

Really good beer, a real step up in flavour and depth. Simply put this is like drinking a block of dark chocolate. Aroma is mocha and chocolate with a dark brown colour/mocha head. Flavour is a meaty chocolate with a hint of stewed dried fruit at the end leading in to a light bittering finish that lingers with a touch of drying tannins. Like it a lot.
