COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ale brewed with fennel seed, chia seed, and pink peppercorns - with mission figs added. In the 1700s and 1800s, missionaries and Native Americans grew a variety of crops along the El Camino Real. Apart from the famous mission grapes, mission figs, barley, and olives, fennel and chia were also grown... (The brewers) tried to recapture some of the historic flavors of the old Camino Real by brewing this beer...

Bottle shared by Bacterial! Very dark brown caramel pour, light ring of lasting carbonation and an aroma of hops and roasty nuts. Flavor is chocolate, fennel, hints of licorice, and finished with some sweet raising. Interesting (but good) beer!

Dark brown pour with just a slight tan head. Thin, reddish hue at the edges of the liquid. Spices, malt and lots going on in the nose. Nice taste, lots of stuff going on with a slightly sweet and chocolate bitter finish.

Bottle thanks to somebody, rating from my backlog. The look is dark, a beige to tan decent head, and brown to black in color. The smell is sweet, floral, spiced. The taste is sweet, fruits, floral, and ok.

12/20/2010: Stone El Camino Unreal Black Ale... Aroma: Rich, caramelized malts; citrus hard candy. Appearance: Deep, dark brown; 2-finger brown head; lattice-like lacing. Flavor: Dry, roasty malts; pine/spruce hops; slightly dry, roasty char finish; subtle black peppercorns. Palate: Medium-full body; smooth; not sticky. Overall: Nice brew; I like the hop character.

1/27/2011: 21st Amendment/Firestone Walker/Stone El Camino (Un)real Black Ale... Aroma: Yeasty and roasty chocolate; mineral characteristic; sharp leafy hops. Appearance: Near black color, opaque; lasting, foamy brown-colored head. Flavor: Dry chocolate; notes of roasted malt and coffee; oily citrusy hops (tangelo) that open up as the beer breathes; Palate: Medium to medium-full body; VERY smooth and creamy; calm mouthfeel. Overall: Very solid; I like the dark roasty flavors melded with the citrus hoppiness.

maekchu (2089) - Hirakata, JAPAN - FEB 21, 2013
Bottle from Whole Foods El Segundo. Light coffee aroma with some gentle spice. Very dark brown with a thick plug-like dark tan head. Sweet and sugary initial, with some pleasatn dark fruitiness / mid gets fruitier and adds some very light pepper / finishes smoothly, with some peppery notes and alcohol warmth. Medium-heavy body. Pepper notes come out, but other spices/herbs not so much. Three good breweries, and a pretty good beer.

From the bottle, a dark black pour with a tan head. Aroma of some figs and chocolate and a little minor smoke. Taste has similar with some molasses with the figs, and a nice hoppy and spicey flavor. Good Stuff!

Sample at the DBLDP on 09/02/2012: The beer pours black with a medium light brown head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of figs, caramel malt and chocolate. Medium to full body with flavors of roasted malt, chocolate, peppery hops and pine. The finish is roasty with an earthy malt and spice aftertaste. Good beer all around.
