4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. A reddish, dark brown beer topped by a creamy, dark beige head. Roasted malts, chocolate and some coffee, and a hint of licorice, guess that’s the fennel seed. Even more pronounced coffee and licorice as it warms. The flavor is pretty much the same, only more pronounced in all aspects. Super smooth, full bodied and with a pleasant warmth. Mostly roasted finish, but there’s some notes of chocolate and licorice. Mmmmm, delicious. 110930

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A: The pour is nearly black in color with a solid tan colored head with slight lacing.
S: The nose is roasty with plenty of spice--mainly pepper. There is also a light fruity sweetness from the figs.
T: The roast is perhaps a bit more intense than in the nose which is quickly followed by the flavor and sweetness of figs. The peppercorns follow that and all of this is accompanied by notes of oak, a light floral character, and a touch of bitterness.
M: The beer has a medium-to-full body with a rather full level of carbonation.
D: The flavors were very interesting and kept me coming back for more sips to see what I could find next. Not necessarily my favorite of the collaborations, but definitely "interesting".
