Bottle. Deep brown with a quickly disappearing head. Chocolate and boozy aroma along with toasted nuts. Bourbon, fig tastes, a peppery ending. One of the smoothest beers I’ve ever had.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 badgerben (4116) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - SEP 8, 2010
Black color with a medium head. Outstanding aroma. Very fruity, lightly herbal. Some caramel and toasted malts. Juicy, fruity fig taste, rich barley, and just a slight bit of acrid, burnt malt. Full bodied. Wonderful.

Bottle from Ledgers. Excellent Black IPA! Pours a black with tan head. Nose is dried figs, malty roastiness and a little heat. First taste is peppery and coffee like. Finishes clean with a slight burn.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 crusianbeer (107) - Texas, USA - SEP 10, 2010
bottle from awesome girlfriend.. again.
pours VERY dark for the style, I like it. Almost no head, whatsoever. Quick swirl fixes that right up, actually more tha I thought it would.
nose has chocolate, and some woody and nutty in it. Very unique. actually has a bit of the palo santo smell in it.
taste, the only thing I can say at start was odd... it furled my brow. this beer has many phases. on the front there is nuttiness and a lot of anise... no other beer has touched the tip of my tongue like this has. it morphs through fig on the flat with a mild pepper flavor, and ends very dry with another flavor I can not quite put my finger on...
can not even fathom that this is 9.5% I can taste it nowhere.
This is a very unique beer, find it, get it. totally worth the under $3 price tag. Wish I had more.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 daknole (5841) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - MAY 26, 2010
Black pour, tan head. Aroma is much like a stout but has some extra oomph from hops and additional ingredients. A nice mix of herbal hops and chocolate with some boozy notes peaking thru in the nose. Flavor is full and really a harmonious balance of dark malt, aswesome hops and the figs and spices are a welcomed addition. Nice beer. Very nice. Certainly one to seek out.

Bottle from Whole Foods in Chandler. Live rate. Pours a roasted coffee color with a reddish brown head of foam -- looks great. Smells of ash, cocoa, sweet malts, peppercorns, and figs. Very earthy. Tastes of each with added notes of savory spices, grape skins, and barley. Good stuff.

On draft at Stone. Dark black with nice tan off-white head. Aroma was very sweet with some spices and vanilla/chocolate. Taste was very roasty, chocolate, spices, oak, and a bitterness that sticks around the pallet. Medium nice silky pallet. Overall very good.
