This is a very tasty black IPA. Plenty of hops combined with delicious malt character.

04-MAY-2014, can @Hyatt Regency hotel room, from Wholefoods P Street, Washington DC.
Almost clear mahogany, a bit darker than cola with a lasting lacing tan head. Aroma is hops and roast, coffee, grape fruit, pine.
Taste the same. Very fresh hops. Very coffee-like. Quite burnt taste. Perfect hop/roast balance. Full body, soft carbonation. Just what I hoped for:-)

Draft. A little transparent, almost a brownish tint to the color. Nice lace on the glass. West coast hop flavor. Very drinkable. I like it.

355ml can @ Sofitel Bay Bar, Redwood Shores, CA
Enjoy by 08/05/14 - Pours dark brown, almost black with a smooth white head. Aroma of roasty malts, hops, licorice and smooth grassy notes. Taste is smooth, grassy and roasty with some grainy notes, bitter hoppiness and licorice. Finish is smooth, bitter and roasty with some fruity notes. Okay black IPA.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours from the can a dark reddish-black with a huge, frothy, tan head. Nose is what you expect from an IPA - all hops, mostly piney; a little malt coming through. Taste is surprisingly malty and sweet. The hop seems to be mostly in the aroma. There’s a nice bite, but none of the mind-numbing hop-assault of typical IPAs. Medium body, lively carbonation, long hoppy finish. Tasty brew!

Fra fad, RedFarm, NYC. Petfekt balanceret ml maltsødme og let udtørrende bitterhed. Karamel, mild lakrids, grapefrugt, citrus, gran. Nå ja, og den er - sort! Skummet er lysebrun og frodigt. God Black IPA.

Can at wob. I like this beer much better in the can. Fresh, highly carbonated, hugely roasted. Nice coffee flavor throughout, medium bodied. Slight slick mouthfeel on the finish. Awesome tasty Sessionable brew.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Can on April 14, 2014 (but bottled on Oct. 24, 2013). The beer’s a dark brown/black pour with substantial head and lacing. Malty aromas. The hoppy flavors are a bit skunky, due most likely to the fact that this can is too old. Very subtle hops, not that bitter at all. Hard to give an accurate rating due to the old can.
