On tap at rattle n hum in NYC. Pours near black with a reddish hue. Nice creamy head which left lots of lacing. Aroma is roast and coffee along with some citrus from the hops. Taste is moderately bitter. Hints of cocoa coming through along with a touch of smokiness. Body is medium. A good black IPA.

Dark brown with a medium head. Aroma of roasted malt, light chocolate, and citrus hops. Dry and roasty with a short finish. I was expecting more hop bite.

Good beer; probably like it as much as any Black IPA I've had. Just not a fan of the style; but this beer does the style admirably.

Can: Blackish pour with large beige head. Aroma is hoppy pine with a nice roasted grain and toffee bit. Flavor is a nice balance of chocolatety roast grain with a piney hop kick, ends with a little woody and tinny metallic note. Smooth drinking, almost creamy with a nice flavor, a nice balance of toasted grain with a big hop presence. Easy drinking and flavorful.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at City, San Francisco. A dark brown beer topped by a small, light beige head. Slightly bonfire-like aroma, burnt, with some licorice. Some sweetness in the mouth, quite bitter too. Some burnt flavors, but not as much as in the aroma. Full body. A nice one, but too much on the burnt side I think. 130804
