Back in Black is our newest year-round beer available now in six pack cans and on draft. Brewed like an American IPA but with the addition of rich, dark malts, this beer has all the flavor and hop character you expect with a smooth, mellow finish.

Can thanks to Matt. Pours a dark brown with beige head. The aroma is strong pine, roast, hop. Medium mouthfeel with a bitter pine hop, light roast, dry finish. Good.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a nice black color with a one finger white to off white foamy head that dissipated a nice pace and ends up leaving a decent amount of foamy lacing sticking to the sides of the glass. The smell was roasty yet bitter and had a nice coffee/almost slight chocolate trying to come out through some nice citrus hoppiness. The taste was basically bitter and roasty with a nice allocation of bitter coffee-ness coming through. I didn’t get any aftertaste but there is a decent somewhat bitter dry finish. On the palate, it sat about a light to medium on the body as it tried to show a decent sessionable quality about it. The carbonation is good for the style and for me as it shows a decent harshness but nothing overbearing. Overall, in my opinion, I say this is a good American Black Ale, well worthy of having again and from what I’ve recently learned = Black ales go extremely well with cheesecake. Try it you just might be surprised.

Pour is dark but a translucent black, with little head. Aroma is wet hops, hay, and a little coffee. The taste starts with more bitter and piney hops and goes to some smoke and finishes with a bitter end. Good stuff.

Transfer from BA rated on1-27-12 - Poured from can into pint glass Appearance -A nice dark brew, deep brown toward nearly black. Some sediment is seen floating about the brew which sinks to the the bottom of the glass. Looks of hop pellet. A nice tan head forms with big bubbles entrapped within. The head fades with a bit of lacing. Smell - Initially pick up the slighted roasty coffee and malt notes. This however is soon is lost to a nice moderate piney hop aroma. Taste - Coffee and a bit of chocolate are the first to be experienced in the taste. the hop then starts to work its way in around the middle of the taste experience. Not as potent as a traditional IPA of ~ this abv, but definitely miles above the standard stout or porter. A nice blend of flavors with noting too overpowering. Mouthfeel - More in line with the traditional IPA then a stout or porter. A little thinner then I was original expecting. Thinner, but not anything bad, just sorta average. Overall - Its not quite a IPA and not quite a darker beer. Its good, but I think if the hoppiness was bolstered a bit it would possibly be great.

04-MAY-2014, can @Hyatt Regency hotel room, from Wholefoods P Street, Washington DC. Almost clear mahogany, a bit darker than cola with a lasting lacing tan head. Aroma is hops and roast, coffee, grape fruit, pine. Taste the same. Very fresh hops. Very coffee-like. Quite burnt taste. Perfect hop/roast balance. Full body, soft carbonation. Just what I hoped for:-)

Draft. A little transparent, almost a brownish tint to the color. Nice lace on the glass. West coast hop flavor. Very drinkable. I like it.

355ml can @ Sofitel Bay Bar, Redwood Shores, CA

Enjoy by 08/05/14 - Pours dark brown, almost black with a smooth white head. Aroma of roasty malts, hops, licorice and smooth grassy notes. Taste is smooth, grassy and roasty with some grainy notes, bitter hoppiness and licorice. Finish is smooth, bitter and roasty with some fruity notes. Okay black IPA.
