Back in Black is our newest year-round beer available now in six pack cans and on draft. Brewed like an American IPA but with the addition of rich, dark malts, this beer has all the flavor and hop character you expect with a smooth, mellow finish.

Can from Signal Variety Plaistow NH. Aroma is combination of bready malts, yeasty dough and piney hops. Appearance is dark reddish brown--almost black, with 1 finger-width off-white creamy head, fair retention, no noticeable sparkle, minimal lacing. Taste is interplay of rich, roasted malt sweetness with overtones of hop bitterness, each one taking its turn in the forefront. Palate is medium-bodied creamy texture with late carbonation on the top of the tongue and nice loooooong mild bitter finish. Overall, this beer hits on all cylinders.

Can into glass releases crisp dark body under nice foam head. Aroma of coffee roasting. Taste of malt, coffee, resin and nice hop notes. This is one of the better cross over IPAís.

Malt and roasted coffee flavored dominate this beer. Smells earthy and malty. Pours deep brown almost black with a 2 finger thick brown head. Had out of a can at home. Okay beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 can from Jeff. Smells really nice, definite citrus which is shocking considering the color. Black is a fair way to describe the color. Not great flavor. But not bad. Would drink again.

Aromas of milky yeast, chocolate, caramel and toffee. Not an impressive aroma. Appearance is black with a ton of slowly receding foam. Taste bland with mostly chocolate on the palate. Very subtle notes of caramel, toffee, dark malts and very, very subtle hop presence on the back of the palate. Overall, Iím not impressed at all with this. It is bland with a capital B.

Clear black pour from a can, big foamy tan head, nice lacing. Hoppy aroma and taste. Bitter finish for a black IPA,. So so at best.

There are at least a dozen breweries making a beer by this name. Come on, people, if you arenít going to put a little effort into your beer names, just call it 21st Amendment Black IPA or whatever. In any case, this is a pretty decent take on the style. Itís black w/ a big foamy head and lacing in big sheets. This veers pretty far into porter territory as thereís really plenty of roast malt here, just a lot of hops too. Itís definitely hop-centric in the nose w/ a good deal of pine and a touch of a savory character. Once itís tasted, a touch of sweetness seems to bring out the dark chocolate and coffee roasted character. This is full bodied and slightly low carbonation makes it come off as just a touch to heavy for my liking. Overall though this is a good tasting beer and aside from some very slight ashiness in the finish solid and well brewed.

More roasty and dark versus bitter and hoppy. Aroma is more roasted malt but not that impressive. Taste is somewhat better with plenty of that toasty flavor and just a bit of hop fruitiness to balance it. Itís a nice beer and balanced--itís just more subtle on hoppy character than you might think. Finish is smooth and mellow with a lingering malt coating in your mouth...not so bitter. For a name like "Back in Black" youíd expect a bit more bite!
