3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 leems (406) - Portland, Oregon, USA - AUG 14, 2010
Black with a two finger head, aroma is dark malt and the faintest hint of citrus hop. Flavor is rich malt, a little roast, caramel, tiny coffee and bitter chocolate. The hops disappeared, finish is long and caramel coating the tongue. This would be a good stout but I missed the IPA parts.

Brown-black with red at the edges. Decent head, good lace. Whiff of pale malts and citrus hop. Slightly roasted too like caramel or spicy rye malt. Tastes like a stout or a porter. Has a roasted malt and a citrus finish. Dry finish. A dark IPA with a terrific bitter end result. Liking the dark IPA style.

Pours a black-stout color with no head. Aroma of hops and pine. Flavor is largely chocolate and roasted malts with some hops. Seems more of a Belgian stout than a black IPA, but a fine beer nonetheless.

Draft at the Dutch Ale House (my local) with dinner. Slate black with an off white head. Fluffy. Stoic and hoppy. Some pleasant half way thru chalkiness that blends the up front maltiness to the hoppy dry finish. I had two and feel great.

12 oz can from Bier Stein. Poured black with an inch of tan foam that receded quickly and left sticky lacing. Aroma of black roasted malts, caramel and citrus fruits. Flavor was up front with the black malt, followed up by a solid hit of citrus and some caramel loitering in the background. Decent brew, but not quite as hard hitting as others I’ve had in this style.

Can purchased from the brewpub. Pours with a deep brown body and a large tan head. Sick lace. Aroma of pine, baked goods (raspberry danish?), light citrus, aquavit, mocha, rye. Taste is roasty, a bit metallic, baked bread, bitter and some pine. Very husky. Lively bubbles, a bit chalky.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 savnac (2064) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - AUG 9, 2010
12 oz bottle. Clear dark mahogany brown with a thick light tan head that leaves some lacing. The aroma is lots of citrus and floral hops with a bit of burnt caramel. The flavor is bitter citrus hops with some lightly sweet roasted malt and a touch of coffee. Medium body with average carbonation and a slightly chalky mouth feel. I like this one a lot, very drinkable and in a can, got to love that.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 MrBunn (2219) - Western, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 7, 2010
Can. Pours a darkish brown that lets quite a bit of light through the edges, giving it some striking red highlights. Head is tan and is a pretty decent froth that is clinging madly to the side of the glass. Aromas are fairly weak. A bit of maltiness and a little bit of a citrus hops presence is about all I can pick up. Flavor is a little more robust, but the hops presence takes its sweet time in showing up to the party... it does, finally, but long after the dark malt presence has faded. Only then does a herbal and resiny aftertaste start to form that lingers nicely for quite a while.
