COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Back in Black is our newest year-round beer available now in six pack cans and on draft. Brewed like an American IPA but with the addition of rich, dark malts, this beer has all the flavor and hop character you expect with a smooth, mellow finish.

Pours out a dark brown color with a one inch tan/beige head. Aroma is of citrus hops, roast and slight sweetness. Flavor is citrus hops, roast, coffee, light earthy notes and some slight bitterness in the finish. Solid brew, but it was a bit thinner bodied than I was looking for.

Nearly completely black with a large tan head. No aroma due to my cold. Flavor is roast and nutty with slight citrus notes. Body is a bit thin. Lingering coffee/roast flavors into the finish. Didnít realize this style as on RB, this is a pretty solid beer for the category.

Location: Draft at Amity Hall, 8/28/10

Aroma: The nose has some hoppy citrus, grapefruit, pine, chocolate/caramel malts
Appearance: This one has a black colored pour with a beige head a top it
Flavor: The flavor is nice combination or roasted malts and citrus/pine hops
Palate: It has a medium body, a nice drinkability, soft carbonation, and a creamy mouthfeel
Overall Impression: I liked this one, another good example of the dark or black IPA style. Iím definitely a big fan of this style. It works really well.

pours dark w/ some ruby highlights. Big rocky, tan head that hangs out and laces. Looks great. The aroma is of some light citrus and pine hops balanced by roasted and caramel malts. All on the light side. The tastes are on the light side also. Nothing pronounced here. Iím expecting west coast hops, I get them but they are light. I do get a little more of the roasted and caramel malts. The body is on the thin side. Not a bad beer but certainly not one I will go out of my way to get.

Happy to see more coming off the year round line of 21st. A bit more subtle and thin in the ways of Black IPAís, but definitely a great look into the style. Roasty, almost nutty malts on the nose. Not as sweet as some IPAís of this nature. Fairly dry and hopped up in the body and finish. Slight caramel flavors swept over by more hops. Yum!

12 oz can served in a tulip. Pour is flat black with one finger of beige head. Nose is floral hops, pine, roasted malt, and light caramel. Taste is very similar to the nose. This brew is pretty tasty, and comes off like a cross between a sweet porter and a lighter IPA. I wasnít sure what to expect, because Iím not a fan of really hoppy stouts, but this hybrid pulls off all categories in just the right fashion to make a really delicious brew.

Pours a black shade. An impressive mountain of frothy layered head quickly rises. Excellent head retention throughout and a beautifully laid lace. Looks absolutely delicious and inviting. Fresh dry hop aroma circulates with citrus and grapefruit. If you really stick your nose in you get a big whiff of alcohol, surprisingly medicinal since its only 6.8%. Flavor displays a solid amount of floral fruity hops, but not as much as anticipated from the smell. The hop profile seems a bit one dimensional, really only tasting Centennial hop qualities. Despite being a black IPA, I barely taste any roastiness or dark malt. If I was blindfolded I would have never expected this to be a black IPA. The mouth feel was a bit disappointing, a bit watered down with moderate bitterness. This does, however, make it quite drinkable. Based on the label and style, Back in Black exudes a certain rock star attitude. Before opening I foresaw a big vicious roasted hop bomb. In reality, itís a more modest IPA, with pleasantly moderate hop bitterness and only brief moments of rich darkness

CanÖRBSG 2010Ö Dark brown ale with mid-sized, creamy, khaki head. Fantastic, everlasting retention. The aroma is mainly roasty and dusty with only a hint of chocolate. Medium-bodied with soft carbonation. The flavor is acrid, moderately bitter, singed and lightly acidic. Finishes acrid, burnt and dry.

Tap at Green Leafe in Williamsburg, VA. Pours a deep ruby to near jet black with a massively rocky, dense, healthy, beige head that leaves huge sheety lace everywhere. Nose has apple cider vinegar, old dish sponge vinegar, acetone. Taste is olive paste, pesto spread, and then lots of floor cleaning vinegar and heavy iron metallic piping. Not much body here allows so many flaws to stand out. Not good.
