Pours a super dark brown with a short lived tan head. Aroma lightly roasted malt and citrus hops. Flavor is nice and hoppy, with some citrus and nutty malt. Good stuff.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Roasted and hoppy, like a Christmas tree being slow roasted in a moist fire. Bringing together "black" and "IPA", I tell you folks, itís harder than it looks. Itís delicious but itís dirty - dirty deeds, done dirt cheap. This beer will always fill your ballroom, the event is never small. A few of these and I just want to lie down outside, looking at the sky cause itís getting me high. What else can I say? Iím thunderstruck.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours dark brown with foamy head. Aroma of pithy citrus, slight nuttiness, and moderate roasted notes. Flavor is a bit one dimesnional, as neither the hop or dark malts seem fully developed. Slight sourness is also present. Seems like this one has treble and a little bass but no midrange, as lemon notes blend poorly with some somewhat bland roasted malts. I love the style, although this is a poor example IMHO.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Courtesy of markwise. Can pours clear mahogany with off white head. The aroma is earthy black tea, mild levels of spicy hops, some citrus and faint pine hops. The taste is modestly dark roasted malts then turning mildly burnt malts. Toward midway the hops join in with a firm level of citrus and just enough pine to create a sense of resiny goodness.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Actually had this beer two weekends in a row not realizing it was the same beer (one bar had abbreviated the name).
The beer is very dark black like a schwarzbeir. Lighter/whiter head than I would assume from a beer this dark. The mouthfeel is little watery with a bitter finish. The flavors are a little bit sweet: molasses, caramel, roasted malts but with a hop undertone (I think there is less hops than other rates have commented on). And with both the hops and the malts I just wouldnít call it balanced. The mouthfeel seemed to just fall off and end.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours pitch black and completely opaque with slight mahogany edges when held to a light source and a two finger frothy, light beige head. Excellent retention, only slowly fading into a thick lasting cap that coats the glass with rings and splotches of soapy mocha lacing.
Earthy hop aroma with hints of pine needle as well as some citrus fruit notes. This is balanced by a slightly smokey, roasted malt presence. Hints of pine, grapefruit and lemon peel countered by chocolate and caramel malt, smoke, burnt toast and roasted coffee bean.
Medium bodied with a bitter, earthy hop blast up front that is contered by a roasted, smokey malt flavor mid-palate and a bitter dry finish. The hop presence is prominent with a lot of earthy pine flavor that lingers throughout. The citrus notes from the aroma are faint if there at all resulting in a mostly bitter beer that has a nice malt backbone. The malt presence is more prominent than expected for the style with an acrid, roasted/burnt presence. Hints of roasted coffee bean, burnt toast and oatmeal with hints of sweet chocolate, nut and toffee.
This beer is an interesting experiment, but for me, thereís too much of a malt presence for it to be a good hop based beer(IPA, Cascade Dark Ale, Black IPA, American Dark Ale, whatever you want to call it) and too hoppy to be a malt based beer. Itís not bad really just kind of all over the place with itís flavor profile.

Can. Poured black with ruby hints if held up to the light. fizzy white head, that laced the glass. Aroma was very fruity, grapefruits. Flavor again, fruity. Grapefruit and pines. Full bodied, thick texture. Fizzy carbonation. Bitter, in a good way aftertaste. Warming. Dry.

Again in the can. Pours as black as any stout or porter I would claim to be good. small to medium tan-hued head. Aroma is sweet toffee and toasted malts. The flavor is very well balanced, the hops are sharp with their pine and citrus highlights. The malts are robust and toasty. The body is medium, which fits very nice to the flavor. The only knock I have on this beer.... I swear there is a metallic taste to the beer.... From the can or from my head.... Still a good beer.
