COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Back in Black is our newest year-round beer available now in six pack cans and on draft. Brewed like an American IPA but with the addition of rich, dark malts, this beer has all the flavor and hop character you expect with a smooth, mellow finish.

12 ounce can from Beverage Barn in Garden City Park in pint glass. Dark dark brown with nice lasting head and lace. Mildly roasty fresh fruit and yeasty aroma. Very fruity malts, almost like chocolate covered fresh apricots or peaches. Clean dry mildly roasted finish. Nice soft palate. The appearance and the palate are great. The flavor, pretty good. I’m not sure I like this style. Give me a nice roasty mocha-tasting dry porter instead.

12 oz. can- pours almost black with reddish brown highlights with a large frothy tan head and nice lacework, aroma is chocolate malts and spicy sweet hops, impressed so far. The flavor is like an English porter with a spicy hoppy bite. Body is medium, carbonation is medium high. This beer is very smooth yet bold and flavorful. Tasty stuff. And this is the coolest looking can I have ever seen.

Pours a dark brown (deep garnet when held up to the light). The head is brown to light brown, thin. The flavor/mouthfeel of this beer comes across as a porter on the hoppy side (unlike some other more distinctive beers I’ve had in this style which help define a separate style). The aroma definitely favors a clean hop bitterness. Perhaps the problem is that the hop flavors are dominated by the dark roastiness leaving just the bitterness as is more typical of traditional dark styles. Try dry hopping this please? It’s pretty good though as a porter.

Can. Pours black with a large, frothy beige head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is average malt (bread, caramel, roasted), heavy hops (herbal, grass, pine, woody), and average esters (apple/pear) with notes of raisins and plum. Flavor is average malt (bread, caramel, roasted, nutty), heavy hops (herbal, grass, pine, woody), and average esters (apple/pear) with notes of raisins. Medium body, low warmth and creaminess, high carbonation and a dry and biting finish.

UPDATED: NOV 21, 2010 THIS BREW IS LIKE THE IMPERIAL STOUT OF IPA’S IT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE AN IPA BUT WHEN YOU TASTE IT YOU KNOW THAT IT IS, AND, IT’S WONDERFUL. POURS BLACK WITH A RICH THICK CREAMY TAN HEAD AND SMELLS OF WONDERFUL SWEET HOPS AND CHERRIES. TASTES OF AN ABUNDANCE OF HOPS YET IS BALANCED WITH DARK ROASTED MALTS GIVING IT A HINT OF THE CHOCOLATE COFFEE FLAVORS OF A GOOD CHOCOLATE STOUT. IPA’S HAVE BEEN ON THE TOP OF MY LIST OF FAVORITE STYLES FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW , HOWEVER I HAVE BECOME BORED WITH THE FACT THAT MANY IPA’S LACK ANY DISTINCT DIFFERENCES. THIS BREW TRIUMPHS IN ITS INDIVIDUALITY.

12oz can from Brewforia
Appearance: Black with huge beige ice cream head with lots of sticky lacing
Aroma: Dark malts, pine resin and metallic
Taste: Roasted malts and pine resin
Seems very ’raw’, the favors just don’t mesh well.

On draft. mediocre black IPAs just end up tasting like bad stouts. This was thin and sour and barely drinkable.
