COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Back in Black is our newest year-round beer available now in six pack cans and on draft. Brewed like an American IPA but with the addition of rich, dark malts, this beer has all the flavor and hop character you expect with a smooth, mellow finish.

Pours a dark, dark brown with thick, dense off-white head. Aroma-Faint roasted malt, citrus hop notes. Taste-Roasted malt, faint coffe and chocolate notes, a nice citric hop bite for balance. Overall, pretty flavorful.

On tap @ the brewery during San Francisco 7/7/14 beer tour. Pours a reddish brown appearance with a light brown head. Light roast, cocoa, coffee, lightly spicy pine in the aroma. A bit thick and a little on the sweet side. A bit of burnt sugar. Bitter liberty hops. Slight chocolate flavor. OK.

4 oz draft part of a flight at 21st Amendmentís brewpub. Dark brownish black with off-white head. Aromas of roast, pine, citrus, floral. Tastes of roast, pine, caramel, dark fruit, coffee. Medium body with a dry finish.

MadRobin (1830) - Silver Spring, USA - JUL 2, 2014
On tap pint at Gilly's Beer & Fine Wine in Rockville, MD. Opaque, deep dark brown (sorry, but not black) with creamy khaki head and excellent lacing. Aroma of chocolate, toasted malt, pineapple, toffee and grapefruit. Taste of chocolate, grapefruit, pineapple, toasted malt and caramel. Medium body and medium carbonation with a soft, foamy mouthfeel. A nicely balanced India black ale with enough roastiness to justify the '"black" in its moniker, even if not there in the hue. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Eh, more like Back in Brown but Iíll let it slide just this once. No need to gripe about the color when the flavor and smell is as good as this. The balance between malt and hops is just about perfect for this style. I love that the bitter grapefruit flavor in the hops is nicely offset by the chocolate/coffee flavors in the malt. Chocolate in particular comes out quite nicely. Subtle hints of caramel can also be identified if you look (taste?) hard enough. In the end, the sweetness is what makes this black ale shine. And hell, Back in Black is an awesome name... even if it isnít completely accurate in this case.

Far too much bitter black malt flavor. It completely dominates the beer leaving no hoppy experience on the nose or palate. This is pretty much just a stout not a black IPA.

A strong black IPA that has a strong ABV finish. To me it was a sipping beer.

Can to English Pint glass. Pours reddish black, two finger khaki head, nice lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, citrus hops and coffee. Taste is bitter from the hops and bittersweet from the dark malts. Nice balance. Medium body, moderate carbonation, slightly sticky mouth feel. Finishes with notes of smoke, dark chocolate, coffee that is moderately bitter. Good stuff.

Can to half-pint glass (shared with the Mrs.). Looks good; a slightly translucent dark cola with foamy beige head. Smells of dark malt and hops with a bit of roast; a little unbalanced though. Some of that cat piss Simcoe-forward presence on the nose that isnít really aversive, but could use some balance. Tastes like it smells, only more balanced, with a nice, smooth mouthfeel for the style. Enjoyable, and tastes better than it smells.
