Tap. Dark mahogany brown color with a tan head. Dark malts, slightly sour, caramel and toffee, and very little spice that I usually expect in a Belgian Strong Ale.

UPDATED: FEB 5, 2012 Listed as 21st amendment strong ale at mad mex robinson so I guess this is where it goes. Quite dark but bot brown. Sweeter perfumy aroma. Wew, strong alky impact on the first taste, certainly no effort is made to hide the alky, after all it is a strong ale. Quite flat from the tap. Finish is bitter medicine, over the top.

Medium brown color. No head. Somewhat yeasty, although it almost tastes and smells more English than Belgian. Some alcohol in the nose. Caramel flavor. Some plum. Mild bitterness in the finish. Medium body. Not the best Belgian-style beer but nice to see the attempt.

I think this is the first time that I have had an american brewpub beer which truly resembled one of the darker trappist beers. Taste was average though, lots of plum, raisin, and yeast. I really appreciated where they were going and it was a good beer, but dont expect a truly trappist taste.
