COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like FDRís Depression-Era Radio Addresses, which were like a kick in the butt and a hug at the same time, our Fireside Chat is a subtle twist on the traditional seasonal brew. We begin with a rich, dark, English-style ale and then we improvise with spices until we know we have a beer worth sharing with the nation. Celebrating the right to be original.

Tap at RNH. Pours a deep amber with a thinning head. Aroma is big spicy, cinnamon nutmeg, toast, biscuit, dark caramel malt, burnt toffee, and some earthy notes. Flavor is sugary sweet, dark caramel, nuts, big cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, leather, earth, and a strange slickness towards the end and some yeasty phenolic notes. Strange beer- a bit messy, definitely not my style of beer. Seemed just mixed up, everything thrown together type beer, that just doesnt work for me. Meh.

12 oz can from Princetonís. Dark brown colored pour with a cratery tan head. Nutty, spicy aroma with a bit of nutmeg coming forward for me. Not sure I like the flavor, itís a bit all over the place for me. Kind of a tangy spicy flavor but not one that I like very much. Not a bad beer for me but I donít think itís my thing.

On tap @ Rattle N Hum. Brown with a bit of head. Spicy aroma with some cinnamon, caramel. Roasted malt comes out more on the palate, light bitterness and smoke on the finish. Not bad, but I had high expectations for this beer and was a little bit disappointed.

Out of a can, and into a glass, at Brewforia, Meridian, ID Deep hazy mahogany with a small but lasting fine tan head. A skin more like, actually. Light toasted malt aroma with some spice and cidery notes. Flavor is fairly tart and of apple cider. Light medium bodies and a bit dry. Dusty tart finish and lively carbonation, The spices are nicely balanced and is good for the style.

Live rate after having a few cans from the brewery. As much as Iím in love with the artwork on the can; this is a classic case of poorly judging a book by itís cover. Pours a thin mahogany color with a frothy beige head that leaves plenty of lacing. Smells of sour cherries from afar along with notes of wet wood and dirty malt. Tastes of each with added flavors of toffee and flat Dr. Pepper. Unfortunately, does not improve as it warms and the strange barley flavor only becomes more apparent.

UPDATED: DEC 11, 2010 (can from bhensonb, thanks!) Pours a dark reddish brown with a light cream-colored head that sticks around well. Aroma of pumpkin, nutmeg, and cinnamon with some gingerbread cookies as well. Pretty dry and spicy, with some subtle sour undertones beneath the dominant dry and spicy elements. Oddly interesting, and it vaguely resembles a flanders red. Taste is lightly sour, with plum skin, cinnamon, some caramel, and gingerbread cookies. The finish is overly spicy and is so dry that it leaves an effect that is reminiscent of the taste you perceive after vomiting or chewing an aspirin. Not that appealing. As the bile and pills fade, there is some saving grace when a light pumpkin-esque finish arrives, but it arrives far too late. Gets more tolerable and toned down as it warms. Overall, this is a pretty weird beer that is just far too spicy and possibly infected.

(12oz can, courtesy of ericandersnavy) Pours a clear amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma of nutmeg, cinnamon, pumpkin spice, sweat, caramel, allspice, roasted malt, and burnt bread. Flavor of cinnamon, roasted malt, nutmeg, caramel, brown sugar, and earthiness with a dry finish.

12 oz can served in a tulip. Pour is deep brown with 3 fingers of foam that went the distance and left a pretty show on the glass. Nose is toffee, malt, nutmeg, ginger, and a lightly astringent alcohol. Taste is right on par, but the brew takes more of a dominant vegetable/spice tangent. This rolls right into the finish. On first glance, I really thought this beer had unjustly low ratings. However, the longer I sit with this one, the less the enjoyment factor is and the more I understand it. It is worth a try, but I wouldnít grab another.

12 oz can shared by Dansting. Pour is a hazed ruby brown with a smallish light tan head. Aroma of not much, some light nut, along with dusty spices and a very faint mild cherry fruitiness. Taste is the mild cherry malt (a bit unnatural), moving in with a nutty roast behind that and then the spicy dusty earthiness. Palate is medium, a bit of a sharp after taste. Just ok - thanks for sharing Dan.
