Like FDR’s Depression-Era Radio Addresses, which were like a kick in the butt and a hug at the same time, our Fireside Chat is a subtle twist on the traditional seasonal brew. We begin with a rich, dark, English-style ale and then we improvise with spices until we know we have a beer worth sharing with the nation. Celebrating the right to be original.

From a can. Brown/ruby colored liquor pours clear with a decent head. The aroma was of toffee, citrus hop and nutmeg. The medium body is bitter-sweet with a somewhat chaotic spice profile. I wouldn’t buy this one again, as there are better versions of spiced beer out there. And I swear I could taste metal from the can. Maybe it was a psychological taste. . .

Draft. Poured hazy brown with an average frothy brown head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate to heavy dark malt and spice aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy spice and dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy spice sweet finish of moderated duration. Refreshing complex beer.

Pours an brown color with an off-white head. Aroma is light of nutmeg, vanilla, caramel, and just a hint of hops. Flavor is strong of the spices at first but dies quickly. Not much lingering flavor. Was hoping for something better.

Pretty messy. Some nutmeg sweetie tones on top of a rather wet sticky winter brew which has no serious texture to it. I was thinking this was stale but checked the date. Hard to believe it came from this brewery which produces some pretty awesome beers.

Poured from a 12oz can. Smells of cloves, nutmeg, and belgian yeasts. Tastes of belgian yeasts and spices. Not terrible, but not great.

12oz can: Pours a deep ruby/brown color with a lacy white head. Sweet, spicy floral notes with almost wine/grape/alcohol notes coming through. Medium body, somewhat fruity and tart. Finishes slightly tart/bitter with sour cherry/wine like qualities. Definite sweet/spicy notes throughout. Different kind of beer and actually very enjoyable. This would make a great fall beer or winter warmer. Overall, if you like some tart/fruit/wine-like notes in your beer, definitely check this out! (B+)

On tap @ Lure’s, Crownsville Md-Cloudy brown pour w/a moderate tan head. Moderate roasted malt aroma. Flavors of roasted malt, nuts & a little bit of smoked peat. Kind of weak & one dimentional, smelled better than it tasted. Pretty average, kind of a disappointment.

Can at the 21st Amendment pub in San Fran (not available on draft). Dark pour with slightly acidic aroma with touches of spice and malt. Chewy body with complex but poorly melded blend of dark fruit, acidity, cinnamon, clove, and dark malt flavors. Okay but weak compared to some of their other really great beers.
