COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like FDR’s Depression-Era Radio Addresses, which were like a kick in the butt and a hug at the same time, our Fireside Chat is a subtle twist on the traditional seasonal brew. We begin with a rich, dark, English-style ale and then we improvise with spices until we know we have a beer worth sharing with the nation. Celebrating the right to be original.

Mild nutty aroma, with just a touch of spice. Pours a dark brown, with ruby highlights when held up to the light, with a thin cap of light brown head. The spicing is the predominant flavor in this beer, with just a touch of malt in the back end. The spicing is reminiscent of Anchor’s Our Special Ale, so if you like that beer, this would be another one to try. The palate is a bit astringent, but it’s a nice sipping beer. I may have to pick some more of this one up and see how it holds up over time.

UPDATED: OCT 19, 2014 Can from Whole Foods Market, Bowery, New York, NY. A dark amber/brown coloured pour with a thin off white head on top. Sweet, caramel, spice aroma. Tastes similar, quite sweet, caramel, spice. Struggled to finish this one. Expected a lot more from 21st Amendment.

With rather high abvs, this beer doesn’t kick as much as you would think. It has a nice spice that lends itself to be very drinkable and perfect for the cold winter months.

"ended up being a weirdish beer that i thought i’d like more. it poured a pretty dark brown with a nice hat. there’s a slightly metallic tanginess/sour aspect that’s right alongside the otherwise rich and robust malty cinnamon and vanilla goodness. i wish there wasn’t. this had the potential to be great, but falls short. Contract brewed in northern Minnesota. 11/2012 - as expected, get rid of the metallic sour off notes, and this is damn good. I’ve had it at a sub 3 and a sub 4, so ill compromise on the score and shoot it a 3.4. "

Transfer from BA review on 2-25-13- Poured from can into a pint glass Appearance - Pours a lightly hazed brown-mahogany color with a small one half finger cream colored head. The small head persists for some time to fade eventually leaving a lighter level of lacing on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is a mix of malty and spicy smells with notes of some sweetness within. The malty aromas are of a toasted malt with the spice being mainly of cinnamon and nutmeg. The sweet smells of caramel, fig, and plum mixed with a light boozy aroma, create a quite spiced fruitcake aroma overall Taste – The taste begins of roasted malt and a very small amount of sweetness from plum and caramel. The caramel fades quite quickly from the taste, while tons of spice and a light boozy flavor come to the tongue. The spice flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg grow stronger to the end of the taste and are joined by an ever increasing rum like boozy taste. These flavors in the end leave a somewhat astringent rather dry boozy and spicy flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thinner side in terms of its creaminess and thickness with a carbonation level that is average to just above average. The thin body does a rather poor job at complimenting the roasted and boozy flavors, although on the plus side the thin body and higher carbonation level did prevent some of the more off flavors from really lingering on the tongue. So overall a moderate mouthfeel. Overall – Not really one I would recommend. The flavors are a little too spicy and astringent with a feel that does not complement well the winter warmer category (although I guess the boozy taste does).

Pint on tap - mahogany color, good lacing with a nice persistent foamy head. Roasty toasty taste, not a whole lot else (where are the spices that everyone else tastes?), slight alcohol, not hoppy at all - kinda gnarly

12oz can. No pour. Sipping right out of can. Aroma is sweet with malt and spice. Taste nice with hints of cloves, nutmeg and ginger.

12oz bottle, via trade from someone awesome I’m sure, pours with a clear ruby red to amber body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up lots of spices like ginger and cinnamon and then it gets into some malty sweetness. The taste delivers firm levels of winter spices but the malts and modest degree of molasses help keep the spices from being overwhelming. Pretty nice as slivers of dark roasted malts surface here and there creating another facet to the experience. Overall for this beer the spices could be scaled back a bit to achieve improved balance and flavor harmony. Pretty nice winter beer though.

Dark brown with medium tab head. Roasted malt and winter spice aromas. Taste is lots of roasty malt and pie or cookie spices. A bit sweet, a bit bitter. A bit like German lebkuchen. Pleasant winter beer and not to bad in July either.
