Like FDR’s Depression-Era Radio Addresses, which were like a kick in the butt and a hug at the same time, our Fireside Chat is a subtle twist on the traditional seasonal brew. We begin with a rich, dark, English-style ale and then we improvise with spices until we know we have a beer worth sharing with the nation. Celebrating the right to be original.

Very original indeed. A unique and distinct blend of spices and flavor. It strangely reminds me of the winter holiday season, both in smell and taste. But, just like FDR running for four terms in office, I can’t help but feel this beer goes just a little too far.

12 oz. can from The Beer Store. Poured a dark brown with reddish highlights and a one finger dense, creamy tan head. Aroma features light toffee with an amalgamation of spices. All light. Light sweetness on the flavor. Some toffee and vanilla with more faint spice. Medium bodied and soft on the tongue. I liked this. Nice "winter warmer" type beer without the heavy dose of spices.

The beer is overall okay in every regard. There's nothing wrong with it per se, but nothing that makes it really good. The spices are very mild, the body is a bit thin. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Drank with Theresa at the 260 King St Beacon flat. Pours a dark brown-cola colour with fizzy off-white head. Smells of dark malt, roasted and slightly burnt, lightly nutty, a bit of banana, wood, anise/liquorice. Taste is lightly spiced, rye, roasted dark malt, some leathery earthiness, a bit herbal, finish is spicy and sweet. Body is quite uncarbonated, light slickness to start but becomes more watery, quite spicy. Not bad! But also sort of what you’d expect.

Poured from the can into a nonic pint glass. The appearance is reddish-brown. The head is long-lived and light tan in color. The aroma the aroma is malty sweet with some cinnamon and nutmeg in the background. In the tasting, this is like gingerbread cookies. Malty and slightly syrupy with spicy hops that contribute vegetable qualities instead of ginger spice. The only weird aspect. A good brew for a cold night to share amongst friends around the fire.

Pours brown with auburn highlights, medium tan head that retains some skim and lace. Aroma of nuts, earth, muddled spice. Those dominate the palate, along with leaves, figs, some roast malt. Coriander and nutmeg peek out, but the spice is more like a slight buzz to cut vegetal hop bitterness. A slightly tweaked brown ale, perfectly OK without delivering a clear profile.

Aroma - roasted barley malt and some woody notes. Some spice. Appearance - body is a burnt umber with good nucleation. The head is beige and 1 1/2", and settles slowly. Some lacing. Taste - has a rich barley malt, some very subtle Christmas spice coriander, nutmeg, and clove. There is a little wooden note, and some piney hops. Palate - on the heavier side of medium, texture is velvety, the carbonation is average, the finish is bitter and tannic.

Type: 12-oz. bottle Glass: Clear 14.75-oz. porter/stout glass From: Discount Alpine Liquor in Alpine, Calif. Price: $9.99 for a 6-pack Purchased: April 3, 2016 Consumed: April 3, 2016 Misc.: Enjoy by Jan. 31, 2016 Was semi-looking forward to this beer. I definitely like winter warmer beers, but 21st Amendment has just been OK the few that I’ve tried. Plus I noticed the “Enjoy by Jan. 31, 2016” on the bottom of the can when I got home (I don’t think it was on the box), I’ll try to not let that affect my review. Poured a dark auburn, murky color with four fingers of khaki, frothy head. Average amount of spotty, foamy lacing in the sides of the glass. Very good retention all the way down. (Sight - 4.00) Smelled nutmeg, dark apple, maple walnut, cinnamon (wishful?), dark peach, dark apricot, hints of slightly spoiled milk and cranberry. (Smell - 3.50) Tasted not as spicy as I would have thought. Got those dark dried fruits - apple, grape, cranberry, apricot - along with nutmeg, rye, roasty malts, almost Scotch Ale like, and still light cinnamon. That 7.9 percent ABV is hidden. (Taste - 3.25) Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Somewhat warming finish. (Feel - 3.25) Not that good of a Winter Warmer in my opinion. Granted the enjoy by Jan. 31 didn’t help, but still. (Overall - 3.25) 3.36 77 B-

Tap at new bohemia in golden valley. Bumped pint glass. Dark copper with white head and good lacing. Subtle aroma. Malty throughout with decent spice hit. Soft body. Not bad.

Can - from sampler pack. Very dark brown in color. Mostly malty aroma with a hint of spices. A bit sweet/definitely malty with a bit of roastiness and spice. Definite spice and some hops in after taste. A bit overcarbonated.

Creamy vanilla and dark cherry aromas from a clear dark amber body with a foamy white tan head. More cherry and dark fruit flavors come through in the taste with a bit of baking spice. Nice dark caramel sweetness with some vegetal bitterness to balance it. Finishes light and sweet with a lasting spice and creaminess. Very nice winter ale.
