The story starts in 1999 when Shaun O’Sullivan walked into my Seattle pub. He’d heard about my massive pumpkin fest and wanted to get together and brew a pumpkin beer like no other: a Baltic-style Porter brewed with pumpkin, caraway and cinnamon. In a light colored can.

12 oz can poured into a pint glass. Pours dark opaque black with medium mocha head. Aroma is mild pumpkin spice, cinnamon, and a bit of chocolate. Taste is similar, somewhat watery body and thin mouthfeel. Chocolate dominates the flavor, cardamom, cinnamon, and dry pumpkin spice are there but lesser. Doesn’t taste like 8.2%. For my money, easily better than the accompanying Tripel, but still lacking in body for a Baltic porter. As with the Tripel, worth calling out the packaging - top notch with these guys. Really unique, distinctive, and fun!

Out of the can, pours dark with rich foam. Maybe it’s the caraway or maybe I got a bum can, but there is a weird sharp sweet aroma and a flavor like solvent and grease.

Can. Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of dark malts, roast, bitter chocolate, cinnamon. Flavor of roasted malt, burnt toast, cinnamon. The pumpkin spices add an extra dimension to an otherwise unremarkable base beer. 7/4/8/4/14 (3.7/5)

355ml can. Brown pour, this is actually a pretty nice brew, different spiced than normal and a decently brewed porter to go along.

Pour is dark dark brown almost black with a large tan head. Aroma is sweet with coffee and chocolate notes. A rich but not overly sweet beer that is a little like coffee and cinnamon toast.

Shared 12 oz. cans poured to small snifters, displaying a nearly opaque, black/brown hue with mahogany tint on the edge, a frothy layer of brownish tan head foam that gradually reduced to a persistent ring & film, and a wavy band of spray on the glass. The nose was roasted, plum, and horchata scent as cinnamon & nuts, with a slight hint of cedar? Better than medium bodied, with a pleasant creaminess to the mouthfeel accompanied by some decent warmth, the taste also included a roasted and earthy bitterness, and a somewhat dry finish. Pumpkin didn’t seem much of a factor, but the beer on a whole hit the spot!

Black body with a nice big ol’ tan head, nice sheet-like lacing. Dense chocolatey malts, dark fruits, and pumpkin upfront. Mellow pumpkin spices start to come out more as the beer warms, but never gets unwieldy. Medium bodied with smooth carbonation, moderate sweetness, rounded finish.

Pours a medium brown with a foamy brown-tan head. Smells of pumpkin, cinnamon, rye bread, anise. Taste is sweet and moderately bitter - pumpkin, anise, hint of cinnamon, molasses.

From the 12 fl. oz. can. Dark brown to near black pour with long lasting tan head. The aroma is oatmeal, black current, and some licorice. Not your typical Porter. The body is light to medium. Huge oatmeal character in the taste with a mild bitterness to end.
