COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The story starts in 1999 when Shaun OíSullivan walked into my Seattle pub. Heíd heard about my massive pumpkin fest and wanted to get together and brew a pumpkin beer like no other: a Baltic-style Porter brewed with pumpkin, caraway and cinnamon. In a light colored can.

12 Fl. Oz. Can. Poured dark, almost black with a huge beige head and very decent lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts and spices, also some alcohol. Taste is sweet and malty, some coffee, spices and hints of pumpkin. Not a bad porter, very good and easy to drink, only complain perhaps is a bit to sweet.

Can:   Deep brown, fairly nice head and lacing.   Somewhat of a non-sweet spiced nose, caraway, squash, and pumpkin.   Faint hint of cinnamon as it warms.   A little chalky and dry on the tongue, along with the aforementioned spices.   Could use a little more sweetness.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   A little dry and chalky on the finish, soft roast, maybe even a little bit of astringency.   The spices are there, but not of the sweet variety.

Bamber Jolly day 2 25/01/2014. Tasting at Cafe Abseits. Big thanks to Colin. Clear caramel coloured pour with a thin off white head. Aroma is soft earthy roast, sweet caramel, vegetable. Flavour is sweet, nutty malts, with caramel, soft roast. Palate is sticky and sweet. . Not great overall, some nice coffee.

Wow, this is a lively one! One of the most dynamic aromas Iíve come across. You can almost taste the beer through smell with all the spicy notes jumping out. It has a very nice dark brown pour w/ a good tan head that leaves rings of lacing. The flavor has too much going on for me. Itís a lot like Peste but all jumbled together and not all that balanced. It definitely scores point for its uniqueness but it doesnít quite all come together for me!

Would re-class this as a Spice beer IMHO. Pours near black with red hues. Not dense, just very dark. Large head and good lacing. Huge spices on the nose, mostly pumpkin. Solid, lasting roasty flavor that, along with the spices, linger on the finish for a long time.

Can. Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville. Pours clear dark brown with a beige head. Smells of nutmeg and other spice. Tastes of bitter pumpkin - you can really taste it, nutmeg, and copper.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a rich, three centimetre tall brown head. Aroma of squash, more pumpkin, nuts, earth, bunches of spices and way more squash! Full-bodied; Very rich flavour with a nutty, herbal and very spicey finish showing caramom, canella, nutmeg and even horehound, but the squash depth goes quite a long way in the flavour profile. Aftertaste shows a rich chocolate flavour, some figs and earth and a complex pit fruit sweetness that pairs well with squash. Overall, a nice and relatively interesting beer - itís not so much of a Baltic Porter as it is a slightly amped up Squash-based beer; Rich and flavourful, but definitely of the herb/spice/veg category here. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Whole Foods in Clarendon (Arlington), Virginia on 09-February-2014 for US$2.99 sampled at home in Washington on 11-April-2014.

12 ounce can from Hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. An almost black pour but with a little red. A thick creamy tan head falls slowly and leaves lacing. A very roasty aroma that is almost burnt. A nice creamy feel. The flavor is also roasted with a coffee bitterness. Pumpkin, spices, and even chocolate are all light but came out more with warming. This did improve but the front was not all that great. Interesting, though.

Shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. Pours very dark brown color with a huge tan head and really thick lacing. Nose of ripe fruit and a somewhat medicinal aroma. Near full body. Flavor is dark ripe fruit, burnt malts, and something almost acrid. This is really an odd mixture of flavors and is not as enjoyable as I would have hoped. The appearance pulled the score up on this a bit.

Can. 3/12/14. Pours opaque brown-black with a thick, resilient and very light-brown head. Aroma is excellent; roast malt, pumpkin, spice, cinnamon, earth, cocoa. Not much else int he way of aroma, but the notes that are present are really nice. Taste is likewise, roast malt, pumpkin, cinnamon, spices, earthy; everything incredible complimentary; finish is pumpkin and roast malt. Really nice. Dense lacing throughout. Mouth feel is full but not syrupy or coating. Medium carbonation. So many things about this are great. This is a top notch baltic porter/pumpkin beer. Well crafted.
