The story starts in 1999 when Shaun O’Sullivan walked into my Seattle pub. He’d heard about my massive pumpkin fest and wanted to get together and brew a pumpkin beer like no other: a Baltic-style Porter brewed with pumpkin, caraway and cinnamon. In a light colored can.

Aroma of chocolate and cinnamon. Dark porter appearance. Taste all I get is chocolate and massive amounts of cinnamon. I like the Belgium triple more.

I enjoyed this better than it's counterpart in the series. Pour is dark with a tan head very little lace. Mild roasted pumpkin notes some black cherry notes as well. The spice in this beer is not to over the top so you still get the great qualities of a porter.

1 year old can shared at my Summer Plunder Tasting. Baltic porter - a soft chocolate mild spice and subtle pumpkin flesh. Roasty with earthy spices vanilla, coriander and chocolate. Medium bodied with a fairly smooth mouthfeel. Nice enough but the spices don’t seem to gel with the malts, they kind of clash.

Nose is spice, soft cocoa, hint of pumpkin. Pumpkin comes through much more in the flavor, combined with the spice creates a very convincing pie filling effect with more of the roasty/chocolaty character on top. Really integrated and well done.

12 oz can from New Seasons Market in Hillsboro, OR. Initial nose was ashy, chalky, and slightly sweet. After tasting, I got much more smokiness, which drowned out almost all of the fall spices and pumpkin that are supposed to be in this beer. I do get hints of cinnamon poking through the haze though. Mouthfeel is surprisingly smooth and creamy. Finish is smokey and slightly bitter. I have never been a fan of smokey beers, but this one is different somehow. It reminds me of smoke from summer night campfires, instead of chewing on a piece of charcoal. Still, not a favorite.

Poured from a can found at New Seasons in Hillsboro. Color is a nice dark, robust brown. Aroma is very sweet and "fall like". Taste is too sweet with a layer of over the top spices. This beer had too much cinnamon and raisin for my taste.

12oz can canned on 07/31/14 from Joe Canal’s Rio Grande. Poured a deep black body with a foamy beige head. Aroma is a combo of chocolate pudding and pumpkin pie, sort of a pupkin pie chocolate pudding pie, some dry toast and yeast to boot. Body is suprisingly dry, average carbonation, normal lingering aftertastaste. Flavor is basically the same as the aroma, dry chocolate pudding skins, pumpkin pie spices, pie crust, dark wet toast, some dry raisin, old caramel and brown sugar. Interesting is kind.

Canned on 09/09/13. Pours a black with a light beige head. Aroma is cinnamon, pumpkin, nutmeg and a very slight roasted aroma. Flavor is roasted maltiness up front with light pumpkin spices coming through in the middle of the mouth with a coffee bitterness finish. I tend to drink more porters than baltic porters, but this has nice carbonation. Usually I don’t enjoy the mouthfeel of porters, but this is nice. It might be the crispness of a lager from the yeast. At any rate, this is quite good.

On tap at capitol beer and taproom. Pours black with a spicy aroma. Has some pumpkin and lots of roasted malts. Doesn’t have to much nutmeg

Enjoyable beer. Can't really tell that it has pumpkin. I get spice but the levels do low I have no clue what it is. If u just gave me this I would think it is just a normal beer with a bit if an odd taste. I like it. Just wouldn't put it in the pumpkin beer category ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Black with a thin tan head. Aroma is spiced pumpkin pie with a hint of vanilla. Flavor is a bit sweet with big pumpkin spices. Notes of cinnamon are prominent. Finishes a little light, could use more body to round it out though. Pretty decent. Wife: 4.3
