On tap at the 2005 OBF. Pours a light gold with a thin white head. I wasn’t sure how well watermellon was going to work or show up in beer, but it was there in full force in this beer. It was an interesting taste that I thought was nice for a bit, but i don’t think i could put down a whole pint of this. Very thin and watery with the watermellon not strong up front in the flavor, but kinda hitting you later on.

(Draft: 2005 Oregon Brewers Festival in Portland, OR) So the line for this beer is absolutely insane. Most beer lines only have half a dozen or so people in them, but this line extends well into the tent area, perhaps 30-40 people deep. And everywhere I walk, people are talking about how you HAVE to try the AMAZING watermelon wheat. So like the other lemmings, I stand in the line to get my sample. First impression? I smell NOTHING! Maybe a bit of light wheat once I have a lot of head space in the the glass, but I’m not getting any watermelon. But the flavor is also very light. I can peg this well. It tastes like the unsweet white part of the watermelon rind between the hard, green, outer rind, and the red, sweet center that we all eat. Most people don’t eat the white part of the watermelon for a reason, and they shouldn’t drink this beer either. Very minimal wheat, if any, and I guess that’s to let the delicate watermelon to dominate. The palate is very watery right from the first sip. Pale straw in color. The small white head is gone within seconds. A different kind of beer, but it’s just basically watermelon flavored water, and an utter disappointment.

I was reluctant to try this because it begs to be overwhelmed by its fruitiness (both meanings). Well, I had a good helping of my wife’s pint and I was somewhat surprised. The watermelon taste is fresh-tasting and right up front. Maybe a tad astringent. The aroma is weak. Color is a cloudy straw yellow. And they slap a hunk of watermelon on the glass, which seems unneccesary. But overall, the beer is not bad, but you’ll probably only get one.

Exactly like a watermelon. Very pink coloring, with small pink head. Aroma is not good, like water thats been standing too long. Flavor is more alco-pop than beer, though the beer is still evident. Fruity, which kind of masks the wheat characteristics. Nothing I’d go out of my way for.

Wow, Watermelon. This is was a very novel idea. The hint of melon from the first tatse was very intriging. There ia a good amount of wheat in this beer to help calm the watermelon. I liked the beer and would recmone to any novice drinker. This may be too much for the experienced palate.

very light watermelon and citrus beer. If you know someone that says they do not like beer, this will most likely change their mind. Extremely refreshing smooth session beer of great quality.

Aroma: sweet watermelon and berries, brown sugar, very fruity
Appearance: cloudy yellow, cream head, some lacing
Flavor: very sweet fruitiness, some sour milk/sour yogurt flavors, graininess/wheaty flavors, aromatic qualities
Palate: smooth and sweet, very light and crisp, fruitiness, sour milk, fruity aftertaste
Overall: interesting, just mild watermelon flavors, in general, nice summer beer

Had this on tap at the Oregon Brewers Fest. My wife liked it much better than I did. Interesting twist on the ’fruit wheat’ beers, with a not-so-overpowering watermelon flavor. Quite drinkable summer beer.

Light orange. Interesting melon and fruit juice nose, very sweet. A little fizzy, the watermelon flavor is there, but doesn’t do anything at all in this candy-like brew.

not a bad fruity beer, everyone seemed to love it at the Oregon brewfest. It had by far the longest line. It was refreshing when it was 100 degrees out
