COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name is a tribute to the hop shortage a few years ago. A imperial IPA aged on oak using Columbus, Centennial and cascades as the bittering hops and dry hopping with Simcoe, Ahtanum, Amarillo, and Cascades.

12oz can, purchased at Craft Beer Cellar - Belmont, MA. Fresh pine and floral citrus aroma. Hoppy beer signatures are really starting to run together for me, unless they’re single-hopped, something super-distinct, or completely odd. The flavors here are tight, but the balance is a little sweet, and there is a light bland, aged quality to the hop flavors. I think I get some oak dryness, but it’s not making a lot of difference. I still don’t get why anyone would wood-age a Double IPA.

Floral aroma with hints of alcohol burning and citrus fruits. Flavor has a nice oak finish but the hop combination seems a bit unbalanced with a somewhat astringent instead of a citrus character. i think they could have toned down the dry hopping. i love simcoes but four hops for dry hopping? I’d rather a juicier dipa. Color seems a bit golden light for a winter seasonal dipa too.

Can from Half Time. Pours hazy light amber with a slight off-white head. Floral/citrus for aroma. Med body. Flavor is citrus, perfumey floral over nice light caramel backbone. Very floral. Incredibly hoppy without harshness or super bitterness. It’s just very hoppy and very bitter. Incredible amounts of hop. Excellent.

The smell is sweet. Full of citrus and vanilla with the oak just sits in the nostrils. The taste is more of the same. Full of fruity hops, mostly citrus, with some piney hop. But the oak and vanilla are the star here. They meld nicely with the hopiness of the beer. Alcohol isn’t shy here but I feel it does a good job of melding in with everything else. Nice smooth mouthfeel. I really enjoyed this one. A beer that packs a ton of punch smell and flavor wise in a small can.

Tasted in October 2011 from a 12oz can shared at a tasting. Pours clear pale brass with a thick white head that leaves thin, bubbly lace. The nose is hoppy resin, citrus, and floral, with a nicely caramelized aroma. The flavor is a nicely balanced blend of resin, citrus, and floral hops, and a nice backbone of caramelization and toasted marshmallow. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long, hoppy, toasted marshmallow, and caramel finish.

Poured a lightly hazy golden color with a medium off-white foamy head. The head reduced to just a film fairly quickly. The aroma was mild with some pine scent and light citrus. I was expecting more from the aroma of an impy IPA. The initial taste had a good hop bite and some light alcohol flavor. There was a bit of a sawdust taste that made it feel a bit dry. The hops lasted well into the finish with some citrus flavor and some malt. There was some alcohol warmth too into the finish.

Date: January 27, 2012 Mode: Can Source: misterbeer Description: Translucent golden orange pour with nice amount of long lasting head and lacing. Some sediment that sits at bottom of glass. Aroma is citrus, malt and maybe some pine. Taste is sweet with a piney bitter finish, maybe some citrus in there as well. Thanks David!

Great aromatics. The palate is a great example of DIPA. Lots of citrus/grapefruit and this shows excellent weight. The alcohol doesn’t show through until you have two cans, then this drags you down a bit. Bitter finish.

Can from total wine Chantilly. Pours light orange with half an inch of white foam which quickly disappears. Nice floral and pine notes on the nose. Taste is curiously inert. Just a hint of pine flavor with a hint of sweetness. I guess supporters would say this nicely balanced. Finishes clean. I don’t really notice the alcohol which could be a good or bad thing depending on your mood.

The smell is fantastic, with a lot going on. The taste however leaves little to be desired. IPA’s are not my favorite, so take my review with a grain of salt. Leaves a little bit of a bitterness behind like a lot of average IPA’s. Probably would not go out of my way to get again.
