COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep, mahogany color, rich malt candied, rock sugar flavors with sweet burnt currant and fig aromas. Itís strong alcohol content is tempered by a clean bitterness and complex flavors. This Barley Wine is named for Cornelius de Boom, the San Francisco Belgian Consulate General (1850 to 1851) and surprisingly the name of the alley along-side the 21st Amendment on 2nd Street.Ė

UPDATED: NOV 9, 2014 Can: Thanks, Jeff! Somewhat muddled, copper-amber body with barely any head, just a thin, beige collar. Aroma is full of some sticky dark fruits, sweet grapes, raisins, with a backing of toffee & light brown sugar. Black licorice in the tail end, with a sharp, boozy acetone note that comes off as kind of "stale" in a weird way. Taste is full of warming alcohol, sticky sweet prunes, raisins, caramel, green apples, & toffee. Pretty alcohol heavy, especially as it warms... Kind of in an acetone/solvent way. Hot, sticky, sweet, boozy. OK at best. I like the idea of a barley wine in a small can, but this doesnít exactly deliver.

8.4 oz can [from trade with jtclockwork, thanks]. Nice red color, medium sized off-white to beige head. Smell and taste malts, sweet malts, lightly a hint of sugar, alcohol. Sticky texture, medium to full body, average carbonation. Meh.

Can. Iím surprised how sharp the hops still are since Iíve had this for probably a year or so. Itís a good thing too with the heavy malt character this has. The pour is a murky brownish color with streaks of amber and a loose foam on top. The alcohol shows and pushes this on the sweet side with big caramel, brown sugar, and candied fruit flavors. Firm bitterness counters that punch some but the end result is still a sticky sipper Iím not sure I like. Maybe itís just not a beer to age. Admittedly barleywine is not really my style anymore.

8.4 fl oz can at RBAG 2015. Clear brown color, has a small ring of white head. Typical barleywine nose of caramel and toffee with hop hints. Taste follows with caramel, toffee and hops. Bitterness was medium, late alcohol. A pretty good barleywine, decent balance.

Mini can shared at RBAG 2015 by Sid. Fruity caramel, lightly hoppy, finish is a bit boozy.

Can as shown. Pours a cloudy amber with no head. The aroma is dark fruits and caramel. Thin mouth, strong caramel, figs, very boozy, decent.

petite can - nose is typical. Sip adds more bitterness than I expect from the style. No overwhelmingly sweet. thatís an equation for balance.

Energy drink can poured. Pours a burnt orange color with little head. Gotta love a beer that can easily be passed as a normal beverage enjoyed while driving home. Iím kidding. But seriously. No, Iím kidding. Or am I? I am. What Iím trying to say is, I love the can. Original, which is great. Sweet, malty aroma. Sweet flavor overall, with some candy malt and sugary caramel. Lingering sweet flavor. Smooth considering the alcohol. Overall a good barley wine. Enjoyed this.

8.4oz energy drink size can. Stored in my cellar for a year. Opaque copper brown with creamy tan head. Aroma like a plate of sweet spiced cookies and a hint of booze. Taste is initially hop bitter (even after a year), sticky toffee, alcohol, rum soaked raisins, warming alcohol, and tropical hop finish. I like a good barleywine and this is a good barleywine.

Can @ home. Copper pour with a small khaki head. Juicy pineapple, grapefruit, and some piney hops. A little bit of booze and some herbal notes. Peach juice, too. Pretty heavy caramel and brown sugar as well. Flavor is just super sweet and caramel heavy. Lots of toffee and pineapple juice. Kind of bitter and boozy finish.
