COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep, mahogany color, rich malt candied, rock sugar flavors with sweet burnt currant and fig aromas. It’s strong alcohol content is tempered by a clean bitterness and complex flavors. This Barley Wine is named for Cornelius de Boom, the San Francisco Belgian Consulate General (1850 to 1851) and surprisingly the name of the alley along-side the 21st Amendment on 2nd Street.–

UPDATED: NOV 9, 2014 Can: Thanks, Jeff! Somewhat muddled, copper-amber body with barely any head, just a thin, beige collar. Aroma is full of some sticky dark fruits, sweet grapes, raisins, with a backing of toffee & light brown sugar. Black licorice in the tail end, with a sharp, boozy acetone note that comes off as kind of "stale" in a weird way. Taste is full of warming alcohol, sticky sweet prunes, raisins, caramel, green apples, & toffee. Pretty alcohol heavy, especially as it warms... Kind of in an acetone/solvent way. Hot, sticky, sweet, boozy. OK at best. I like the idea of a barley wine in a small can, but this doesn’t exactly deliver.

Pitcher at GABBF: Poured a murky copper brown with a tan head. Aroma was dark fruits and malts. Taste was sweet fermented fruit, very hidden alcohol, and malty backbone.

Can (courtesy of AirForceHops). Apricot, fig, and caramelized sugar malt aroma. Hazy amber with small head. Very sweet dried fruit (apricots, raisins, figs) and caramel malt flavor. Nice body. Very tasty - hides its strength well.

Can, 8.4oz, canned 11/7/13. Pours a flat, murky reddish brown color with a thin ring of tan head. A sweet smell of faded citrus hops and caramel malt. Taste is again sweet; candied sugar, bready malt, caramel, and faded citrus hops. Still plenty of abv to be a winter warmer. There are enough lingering bitters to cover the sweetness, but I’d still like to try this fresh. Nice serving size, I’d rather buy a big beer in this size than a bomber any day of the week.

Brown pour with a thin white head. Candied fruit, fig, fairly prominent hopping in both the aroma and taste. Some alcohol warming. Medium body. Would like to revisit this with some age on it.
