Quite nice -- maybe not the best barley wine I’ve ever tasted but certainly in the top echelon for its class.

Yes. The nose is heavy with caramel and grapey fruit. Lightly carbonated with a heavy cherry pie flavour. Very tasty, perfectly smooth and rich but with enough bitterness to counter balance it. I am a massive fan of it.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aromas of citrus fruit, vanilla, butter cookies, pie crust, peaches, berries, raisins, figs, and subtle booze. Clear, dark ruby with a fading, off-white head. Sweet, strong, earthy, and slightly bitter. Medium-full body, low carbonation, and finishes with predominant malt flavors and some heat.

Dark brown color with a very small head. Big malt aroma with some hops in back. Strong plum/raisin flavors. Tons of malt flavor. Nice use of dark crystal malt. Bitterness in the finish. Full body. Nice!

Had this beer at the end of an 800 mile drive, and then being lost for about an hour and a half in the bay area. Looked pretty dark for a bwine, and the 70 IBU's were intimidating, but it was well balanced and turned out to be quite drinkable.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma: Burnt sugar and caramel aromas with dried fruit and earthy yeast undertones. Complex and tempting.
Appearance: Deep amber with rocky tan head that dissipates quickly but leaves lots of lacing.
Taste: Heavy sourness with a light, candy sweetness to balance.
Palate: Full body, thick texture, average carbonation, long finish.
Overall: Rich, complex and deep as any good barleywine should be. I’m not blown away, but I see the crafting and development here.

À la pompe au Decicco: Présence en bouche soyeuse et velouté, houblons terreux en arrière-plan, très subtil. À l’anglaise comme je les aime, caramel épicé, sucre à la crème tapissent la bouche.

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2012 Sampled on draft at Smokin’ Joe’s this beer poured an orange-brown color with a large creamy-fluffy off white head that lingered forever and left incredible lacing. The aroma was sweet molasses, toffee and raisin. The flavor was better and tart with fairly strong notes of molasses, raisin, plum and toffee. The finish was long and bitter with lingering toffee and raisin. There was a noticeable alcohol presence that did not detract overly much. Full bodied. Well done.

Pours an orange amber colour, with a nice foamy head and good lace. Aroma of molasses, dried fruit and toffee. Nice aftertaste.
