Deep, mahogany color, rich malt candied, rock sugar flavors with sweet burnt currant and fig aromas. It’s strong alcohol content is tempered by a clean bitterness and complex flavors. This Barley Wine is named for Cornelius de Boom, the San Francisco Belgian Consulate General (1850 to 1851) and surprisingly the name of the alley along-side the 21st Amendment on 2nd Street.–

Quite nice -- maybe not the best barley wine I’ve ever tasted but certainly in the top echelon for its class.

Poured from the can into a tulip glass. The appearance is a cloudy dark amber with a medium sized off-white head. The aroma is malt with some vanilla. The taste is a thick sweet malt that quickly warms you from the alcohol.

Yes. The nose is heavy with caramel and grapey fruit. Lightly carbonated with a heavy cherry pie flavour. Very tasty, perfectly smooth and rich but with enough bitterness to counter balance it. I am a massive fan of it.

Aromas of citrus fruit, vanilla, butter cookies, pie crust, peaches, berries, raisins, figs, and subtle booze. Clear, dark ruby with a fading, off-white head. Sweet, strong, earthy, and slightly bitter. Medium-full body, low carbonation, and finishes with predominant malt flavors and some heat.

11.5 oz can. Pours a clear coppery color, with a one finger off-white head which dissipates and leaves minimal lacing. Nose is hops predominantly, with a hint of caramel. Taste is caramel and kandi sugar, with a creamy mouthfeel and pleasant hop finish. Alcohol is well-disguised. Overall, a pleasant drink.

Drank this as a last slot in a mixed 6. Not too bad, got better as it warmed. A decent 21st Amendment offering, with ABV to boot.

Dark brown color with a very small head. Big malt aroma with some hops in back. Strong plum/raisin flavors. Tons of malt flavor. Nice use of dark crystal malt. Bitterness in the finish. Full body. Nice!

Had this beer at the end of an 800 mile drive, and then being lost for about an hour and a half in the bay area. Looked pretty dark for a bwine, and the 70 IBU's were intimidating, but it was well balanced and turned out to be quite drinkable.

Aroma: Burnt sugar and caramel aromas with dried fruit and earthy yeast undertones. Complex and tempting. Appearance: Deep amber with rocky tan head that dissipates quickly but leaves lots of lacing. Taste: Heavy sourness with a light, candy sweetness to balance. Palate: Full body, thick texture, average carbonation, long finish. Overall: Rich, complex and deep as any good barleywine should be. I’m not blown away, but I see the crafting and development here.

Taste: Fruity malts, alcohol, bitter undertones
Texture: Stewy, syrupy
Overall: A bright, fruity fig stew with some nice crisp bitterness
