COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep, mahogany color, rich malt candied, rock sugar flavors with sweet burnt currant and fig aromas. It’s strong alcohol content is tempered by a clean bitterness and complex flavors. This Barley Wine is named for Cornelius de Boom, the San Francisco Belgian Consulate General (1850 to 1851) and surprisingly the name of the alley along-side the 21st Amendment on 2nd Street.–

From GE in Indiana. Pours from little, yellow "Red Bull" can into a snifter, brown with red hues, rimming, off white head, little carb at all. Caramel dominates the nose, some toffee and brown sugar with mild citrus notes. Big sugar notes, caramel and brown sugar, sneaky moderate bitter, some citrus notes, mainly orange and lemon. Nice alcohol warmth and subtle mouth feel.

First off, really glad to see this in a small format can. Not sure who drinkis 22 ounces of barleywine at once but I’d hate to see their insulin bills. I mean, just sayen. This stuff gives you diabetes. Or, actually, it is pretty solid for the style. It’s clear amber w/ a wisp of foamy head. It smell bright and citrusy w/ a lot of pineapple--pretty IPA-ish. There is a bit of simple sweet malt character and a touch of tea leaves. It really doesn’t drink as big as it is, which is both good and bad. On one hand, it is not horribly overbearing. On the other, it doesn’t pack enough flavor to justify its strength. Overall, I’d say this is solid but definitely not a stand out. I think barleywine fans will probably want to give this a shot but most other folks can skip it w/o missing out on too much.

(can - 8.4 oz) Clear copper pour with a thick white head. Incredibly hoppy aroma which kind of surprised me. Some light sweetness and a good alcohol hint. Tons of sweetness in the flavor with a good alcohol kick. Very sweet throughout. A bit too much for me.

Draft at the brewery tap, San Leandro. Clear reddy amber coloured pour with a sticky beige head. Aroma is sweet sticky toffee, toffee apple, subdued, orange rind. Some hot alcohol on the nose. Flavour is composed of sticky toffee, hint of wood, apple, brandy apple. High boost. Palate is sweet and sticky, moderate carbonation,

Pour is a dark brown like iced tea with no head at all. Aroma is all things big. A large sweetness along with a big hop and dark fruit. Flavor is more of a dark and heavy bread with some sugar covered plums. Some hops are left on the tongue as this goes down and the alcohol is not noticable. Pretty flavorful American style barley wine. Plenty of dark malt an fruitiness with a hoppy backbone. I wish more brewers would but their high abv beer in a can this sized.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2016 Pours clear amber with a thick off white head. Aroma is hoppy, sweet, leathery and lightly grained. Taste is sweet and only slightly hoppy going very quickly to some beautiful toastiness and finishing with some easy bitterness.

Pours clear copper with a small off white head. Nose is boozy with a lot of caramel and fruity sweetness. Alcohol is clear from front to back with the usual notes of barley and sugars dominating the hops. Finish is quick but sticky. Decent but a very hot beer.

Poured form small 8.5 oz can into sniffer. Don’t get the hard to read pee gold colored can. Pours a dark copper with minimal off white head that dissipates quickly.Aroma is a Sweet malt, resins, some dark fruit. Taste similar to aroma with alcohol warmth. Bitters slightly in the finish showing some hop note. A real nice Barleywine.

Tiny can at home. Undeniably a cool concept, with the energy drink sized cans of barleywine. This is very much an American barleywine -- lots of hop aroma and dank resin. Sweet malts all over the place make this like a free-for-all in the glass. Fun and a little crazy, like the best people in the world.

Aromas of tropical hops, fruit punch, hop oils, resin, toffee, caramel malts and grain malt. Pours crimson/copper with a thin white foam. Taste is bitter hops, resinous hops and hop oils upfront followed by toffee, caramel, amber malts, dark fruits, burnt sugars and slight plum juice. Finishes bitter with harsh resin and hop oils as well as boozy. Overall, very solid offering with a superb hop profile.
