3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Can thanks to the random chaps who came in the rake that night. Alround rating: Sweet candy sugar belgian character, has a small tartness to it, but its primarily all about the yeasty fruity sweetness and the small tartness just keeps it in check. Good stuff.

Batch 1 cans and onwards, as recent as 2013
Typical pour from Cold Springs brewery, that is, clear (though translucent) body with a dark tan head that is initially full but quickly recedes to cover, with little lacing. Body is a garnet/dark mahogany.
Sweet prunes, raisins, cherries and a very soft caramel sweetness are very full. The relatively lower abv helps keep the nose mostly free of alcohol fumes, though some fusels are noted with warming. Vanilla, more chocolate/caramel sugars and some phenols add a light coffeeish note.
Sweetness is certainly the first thing noted. Very smooth, creamy, even slick mouthfeel from the sugars, yet Iím surprisingly not cloyed to death. Itís odd because thereís nothing there to really balance. No drying phenols, alcohol or particularly interesting house yeast character, as the best of the style exhibit, but yet the flavor lacks any real vinousness, roastiness or astringent breadiness that you often see in the style. How does that play out for the beer? Well, itís sweetly malted and easy to drink up to a point, but yet the complexity is certainly lacking. Still, for a canned, industrial-brewed, American trappist-style, you could do ALOT worse.

12 oz. can Pours dark brown with plenty of head and moderate carbonation. Taste is dry but finishes with some really nice but subtle complex tones of dates, cinnamon, and vanilla, very mild spice, and various other flavors that stay in the background. Alcohol warmth is pretty noticeable, somewhat boozy,

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a diaphanous black ale with a ring and central cap of light tan foam. Smells of banana, vanilla, a hint of lemon, sugar and belgian yeast. Flavor of cola with hints of cherry/artifical strawberry. As odd as this sounds, the flavor reminds me of red twizzlers - seriously. Iím not disappointed by this, but caught off-guard. I actually, kinda dig in a novelty sort of way. Medium bodied with hi carb. Semi slick finish. Overall a decent beverage, Iíve got one thatís a year old in the cellar, we will see how it holds up tomorrow. 2.5/2.5/3.5/3/3.5

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A: Deep Brown/Amber Hue, Passes Almost No Light, Thick Off White Head, Great Lacing
S: Dark Cherries, Fig, Cinnamon, Mild Vanilla
T: Fig, Cherry, Mild Vanilla, Mild Cinnamon, Metallic
M: Great Carbonation, Medium to Full Bodied, Metalic
Overall, this beer looks great and then starts to drop off from there with a decent nose but the metalic taste and mouth is overwelming and really takes away from a decent beer. I would like to try this on tap, but my can tasted like a can.

I really like Monkís Blood. Bought a 4 pack, and was able to drink one every couple months. Rich and slight plums on the nose. Nice brew
