COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Monk’s Blood pays homage to the monks of Belgium’s monasteries who have been brewing some of the world’s great beer for centuries. During times of fasting, the monks subsist solely on beer, which they refer to as “liquid bread”. Beer, quite literally, is in their blood. The most sublime of the monk’s premium brews is dark like blood, rich and nourishing. 21st Amendment founders Nico Freccia and Shaun O’Sullivan traveled to Belgium to develop the recipe for this special beer, visiting small, traditional breweries in the hop fields of west Flanders, not far from the famous Trappist abbey of Westvleteren. Monk’s Blood is designed to pair beautifully with rich winter stews, creamy cheeses, unctuous desserts or just by itself, in a Belgian tulip glass, with a good book by the fire.

Pours a beautiful dark copper/slight red with a nice foamy head that disappears not long after the pour. Aroma smells much more of alcohol than I would expect. All of the advertised flavors come through beautifully without masking the characteristics of a true-blooded belgian.

Aroma is dark fruit, malts, yeast, caramel and a hint of alcohol. The flavor is complex dark fruit/malts, caramel, bananas, bubble gum and a yeasty/sour finish.

Poured into a tulip glass. Pours a nice dark amber color with a light tan head that doesn’t last too long. Aroma is a nice clean aroma of banana, fruit, raisins, with an earthy undertone. Taste is also very clean with a little bit of banana, some floral notes with a spicy undertone. It has an alcoholic bitter aftertaste with a great mouthfeel overall. An excellent quad for sure.

Strong dark fruity plum aroma with raisin and chocolate, slight roastiness, caramel/toffee, bready. ~Pours a reddish brown color with wispy off white head. ~Very rich malty flavor, chocolate, melanoidins, toffee, caramel, prune and raisin, dark cherry, pepper. ~Full bodied, with low CO2, somewhat clean sugary finish with peppery sugary spice lingering. ~Delicious brew. This is my 1000th rating, glad I picked this beer. Has pretty much everything I look for in a dark strong.

ajm with the HOOK-UP! If we were monks I imagine we would have been stoned by now, too. Appears black until held to the light, revealing a garnet shade with a creamy beige head of foam that leaves plenty of lacing. Smells of oak -- which is plenty ironic considering how I just poured it out of an aluminum can. Great aroma of vanilla, figs, and pie spices. Tastes of each with added notes of hops on the mid and cocoa at the back of the palate. Not quite as earthy as I was expecting -- actually kind of Baltic -- but I certainly enjoyed this. The story on the can is the cherry on top. My head would explode if this was on tap at Papago and I could get a "monk’s pour" of Monks Blood. LIVE RATE!

Pours a dark chestnut hue accented with some ruby, under a thin but persistent light khaki head. Aroma is biscuity, dark malty, with tones of raisin and brown sugar. Flavor is pretty raisin heavy, with some chewy thick dark malt toffee tones, some molasses, and a strong body with a warming boozy finish down the throat. Mild but persistent malt sweetness throughout, with a nice chewy body, and pleasant belgian dark fruity flavor.

Very dark red but still lets light through. Light brown head. Very pleasant brown sugar aroma. Quite sweet with cherry juice taste (from aging on figs). Some Belgian yeast presence, maybe a hint of banana or clove, but pretty clean overall. Full mouthfeel with tingly carbonation. Still pretty sweet, but comes off as sessionable despite the high ABV. Alcohol is well hidden until the finish, which is dominated by tart cherry.

Opaque mahogany colored body is topped by a creamy khaki head. Vanilla, oak, fig and spice aromas make for a beautiful bouquet. Flavors include cinnamon, vanilla, dried dark fruits and a bit of booziness. Medium bodied, very flavorful and enjoyable. Delicious, excellent brew.
