COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Monk’s Blood pays homage to the monks of Belgium’s monasteries who have been brewing some of the world’s great beer for centuries. During times of fasting, the monks subsist solely on beer, which they refer to as “liquid bread”. Beer, quite literally, is in their blood. The most sublime of the monk’s premium brews is dark like blood, rich and nourishing. 21st Amendment founders Nico Freccia and Shaun O’Sullivan traveled to Belgium to develop the recipe for this special beer, visiting small, traditional breweries in the hop fields of west Flanders, not far from the famous Trappist abbey of Westvleteren. Monk’s Blood is designed to pair beautifully with rich winter stews, creamy cheeses, unctuous desserts or just by itself, in a Belgian tulip glass, with a good book by the fire.

Sweet and fruity malt aroma with a hint of yeast in the background. Deep brown and amber color. Medium carbonated with a light brown head. Wine like characteristics. A little sweet and yeasty. Very interesting. Very drinkable and almost no bitterness or hop presence. Awesome beer!

Draft. Mahogony beer with a light tan head. Sweet malt aroma with raisins and yeast. Rich malt flavor with yeast fig/raisins, and light caramel. Medium-plus bodied. Dried fruit lingers with rich malt, yeast, and some raisins. Very nice.

12 oz can. Pours dark chestnut brown with decent amount of tan foam. Twangy aroma from the Belgian yeast with undertones of dark fruits. Heavy on the palate with tastes of prunes and raisins that are followed by a slight alcohol burn. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can. Pours a clear ruby brown body under a one finger frothy beige head that faded to a thin layer. The nose is heavily fruity with lots of plum and raisin, moderate alcohol, caramel, Belgian yeast, and some chocolate notes. The flavor is rich and fruity with a fairly well kept in check sweetness. Thereís not quite the depth and layers of flavor thatís found in the Belgian classics, but itís pretty decent. I like the fruitiness on the back end and the lack of alcohol heat. Medium bodied and just lightly clingy with soft fizzy carbonation. Pretty decent beer.

best beer from 21st to date. a "dark belgian w/NW hops, candi sugar, cinammon, vanilla, & eight malts". this beer was quite tasty & unique. mahogony brown color, and a nice and sweet complex malty aroma. not a ton of yeast. the aroma was nice, but the flavor just exploded in the mouth. more, and better, than i was expecting. the candi sugar and vanilla are showcased, but the whole package is a nice mix."

Bottle to pint glass. Great ruby pour with a decent off white head and nice lacing. Awesome aroma of vanilla and cinnamon and Belgian yeast plus a bit of the oak chips its aged on. The flavor is a very well balanced Belgian with lots of the vanilla and sugars coming throughout the sip. It finishes nice and smooth. Great stuff. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice Belgian yeast aroma, banana, nutty with slight yeasty. Roasted malty, some cocoa like flavors. Pretty nice beer. Mostly balanced. Not too sweet of a finish for a Belgian, actually maybe a bit on the bitter side for a Belgian. Pretty balanced and a nice beer overall. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a can, 6 months after canning. Pours a nice mahogany with head fading to a film leaving minor lacing. Aroma is cherry, vanilla, fig, oak, brown sugar. Sweet and interesting. Taste is raisin, toffee, dark fruit, more sweetness balanced by cherry tart at the end. You expect it to be cloying at some point but it never gets there. A more holiday feel as it warms. I donít get much Belgian from this, but thatís OK by me. This was surprisingly tasty.
