3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 someviking (132) - old bridge, New Jersey, USA - APR 22, 2012pours a cloudy reddish brown color with a small tan head that disappears quickly. sweet malts and cinnamon spice in the nose. not as pronounced as i would think for such a complex beer. taste is the same with a decent warming touch from the alcohol. pretty decent spiced Belgian ale but not great.

Big thanks to Durhambeer for this one
Pours a very dark brown with a smallish espresso swirl head that fades kind of fast.
The aroma has some really nice pear, apple rind, and mild nuttiness. There is some mild plum & alcohol, it smells nice... it also smells a touch sweet.
The flavor is rich, boozy, & woody. Decidedly not as sweet as it smells, with some dark fruit and drier nutty hazel & brazil nut character. Plenty of that grapey alcohol character. A touch of bitterness is nice.

Pours a hazy amber-red with a tan head and lots of lacing. It has a great aroma of plums, apples, and other dark fruit with some bread and a bit of spice like anise and clove. The flavor is dark fruits and some yeast up front followed by a malty, yeasty middle and balanced fruit and spice aftertaste over a surprisingly light/medium body.

I think this is my first beer from this brewery. The pour is a dark, somewhat murky, brown color with a tint of reddish amber in there. On top sits a one-finger tan head that leaves some light lacing. It smells of sweet toffee and caramel, a bit of red plum, licorice, and yeast. Smells a bit like a Barleywine or Old Ale. The taste is initially quite sweet and alcoholic with caramel, figs, and some cherry fruitiness. There’s underlying notes of oak and vanilla bean that smooth it out with a bit of Belgian spice on the back end. Cinnamon comes to mind. Overall it’s a bit messy and the alcohol does not hide well but a passable Belgian Strong.

Sweet for a belgian. Can taste a bit of cinnamon and vanilla but the belgian spices are strong.

Smells quite potent. Alcohol overpowers but there are undertones of the fig and oak. Can't really say this one is enjoyable to me. A bit too harsh.
